Alberta police can seize and auction off johns' cars
What a royal waste of Police time and taxpayers money. In the thread I posted above you have one country willing to send their prostitutes with their army...just to keep them happy...in our so called progressive country we humiliate the johns who use hookers and take their vehicles away.
The oldest profession will continue on regardless...
Stupidity in Alberta
Alberta police can now seize and auction off vehicles of men found guilty of trying to pick up prostitutes.
If the person is found guilty in court, they can only have their vehicle returned if they can prove financial hardship or if they agree to participate in alternative measures programs.
Otherwise, it will be auctioned off, with the money going to the province.

Yeah but if we can get some cheap cars out of the deal sounds like a winner to me.

It is about time....this is mostly directed at the increase in the number of under 18 prostitutes. I have no problem if someone wants to go an pay for sex with someone else as long as they are 18+. A lot...an I mean a lot of these Johns go down there and pick up 14 year olds. That is the main reason for this.

I have to agree with you Cheese. All this does is push the actions further into dark alleys. I've never understood why it's illegal; if the problems have to do with violence, drugs, and underage participants why not legalize it; and make prostitutes have to get licensed?

And nobody seems to see the problem with the omission of "property rights" in our constitution...?
It's theft, pure and simple. I'm not saying johns for *underage* prostitutes shouldn't be prosecuted, but the punishment should be the same as for any other crime--incarceration, monetary fines, or community service.
This is like a little kid telling his brother, "if you touch my Transformers, I'm going to throw your bike in the lake."

Yeesh...thats weak. So they make a law that takes a vehicle away as opposed to taking that money and removing the 14 year olds...or better, legalizing the profession and making it safer for all? Backarsewards.

I agree that the underage prostitutes has to be the biggest issue. But the legislation doesn't really do anything about that... you might reduce the amount of prositution overall, but the amount of underage prostitution won't necessarily decrease at the same rate. A licensing program would be much more effective, but the community groups who lobby for these laws really aren't concerned about the welfare of the individuals, they just want them out of the neighbourhood.

It should be like any other trade,finish there 4 blocks,work the 8000 hours to become Interprovincial Journeypersons,so they can work in any province.And you must be at least 18 to become a 1st year apprentice.SAIT should get on this and offer a program.

Anyways, i've lived in Vancouver for a couple of months and its a completely different attitude towards prostitution out here. People seem to generally accept that it exists and let it go about its business, and cops don't seem concerned in the slightest. Not that I'm an expert on the subject or anything  . Just an observation i've made.

Well, that would be the same if they were setting up speed traps on a privately owned road; and if the owner of the road was charging men $100 to drive down that road however they pleased.
The fact is speeding on public roads can be detrimental to public safety. I just don't see how a guy looking for consentual sex is anywhere near as bad.
