I mean I'd offer to bet you on it, but we all know how that goes with you.

My only complaint tonight is Dave Cameron's reluctance to use the team's leading scorer on the power play.

Other than that, I thought the boys played great. I love Tkachuk. He may be a blessing in disguise. I don't think I'd trade him for Puljujarvi.

With Frolik, I think the biggest issue is managing the icetime. He's a versatile enough players that I wish he could play 60 minutes a game. I think by not playing as much on the PP, it allows him to excel more at even strength and on the PK.

Tkachuk despite the poor penalty he took in the third was in a lot of great places tonight to generate offence and was just as ice cool as Johnson in net.

Nice to see the Flames turn a page. Confidence and finding their game is a good thing.

Lol Hamilton leading the team in shots by a decent margin.

Just finished watching the game.

Seems like they are getting the system down and playing better. Johnson is a rock in net -- so nice to have a goalie make a save if someone makes a mistake.

Jokes on them though cause Johnny boy still nabbed the game winner before they slashed him out of the first game. Then the Flames avenge tonight on the scoreboard - where it matters.
Oh come now, they were funny

I frequent this conversation with a few Flames buddies here in Newfoundland.

He's a concern to me right now. I feel as if his progression has been stunted a bit... for now. As a player who was (for some time) ranked to go #1 overall, I can't help but notice that he's essentially another Matt Stajan on this team. Not that there's anything wrong with Stajan, but for a highly touted prospect as Bennett I can't help but feel that the Stajan comparison is a little under whelming at this point.

I still love the pick of Bennett. I just really want to see him paired consistently with some skilled linemates for more than 2-3 games to see if he can open up that talent a bit more.

EDIT: When drafted, Bennett's game was suppose to be similar to Tkachuk's if I remember correctly. Bang around and go hard to the net.

Can we stop comparing all our young centers to Stajan??!
Unless maybe it's a good thing. "As in: even when he's being inconsistent, at least he isn't noticeable in a bad way?"

His physicality and aggression took a step back for a while after he got benched, but it is starting to emerge again.

Offensively, hell get there. Having better linemates would definitely help, but its close.

I think for him, it will all just suddenly come together at some point. The passion is there. The talent is there.

One day it will all fall into place and he will be off to the races.

The biggest issue with this point is Backlund gets all the same ES and PK time as Frolik as they're on the ice together for these but Backlund also gets PP time. Backs and Frolik should always be on the ice together in my mind, including the PP. They read each other so well and have similar skill sets if you put them out wth Tkachuk on the PP for the second unit I think they would have a lot more success

Backlund has always played with a chip on his shoulder, but it usually got him hurt. Now that he is fully developed physically, he can bring it more often. The irony is, he doesn't as much because he's matured a ton.

As for Backs and Fro, totally agree that Fro needs to get recognized and get some regular PP chances. But the team needs to stop taking so many penalties for that to happen as he's really our #1 pk'er.

Seems like bennett isn't as sure of himself lately. He isn't finishing his checks as much or being elusive in the corners. He's never been as quick or elusive a Johnny... no one is... but in the past he still managed to create space for himself.

I especially notice his hesitation in the offensive zone. When he carries the puck in it seems like he doesn't know what he should do. He used to try to deke through defensemen... which likely frustrated the coaching staff cause it doesn't usually work. Now he crosses the blueline and just shoots a long easy wrist shot at the goalie to get a whistle.

Would like to see him stop up once he gains the zone... like backlund, gaudreau, and even ferland do to create space and get a play going.

Hopefully it's just a confidence thing and he gets his game on track. Would love to see him back at centre when Johnny comes back.

IMO he's still working out his NHL game. He's trying to play less of a minor league dangling game, but that was his comfort zone, so he's a little out of sorts. I figure he will adjust.

Really for all th concern about him he is still second on the team in points. Sure it's a 40ish point pace but being second on the team playing basically the third line with Chaisson gotta count for something. You're right he needs better teammates and honestly I'd love to see him back at centre with Ferland on his wing. There's a guy who can dig the corners and open up he ice for Bennett and allow him some skill moves.

I think the time on the wing with Stajan has been good for him to find his game again but I think he's ready to elevate but I think that can wait for Johnny to get back. Gaudreau-Monahan-Brouwer Ferland-Bennett-Versteeg looks pretty good to me. That being said I don't care about his points as long as the team is wing so until Johnny comes back I don't think you change a thing.
