I put the extra socks on, and added a merino wool t-shirt. Just right, except for my skimpy gloves....

Yeah I'm adding only one layer and sweating.
This morning:
-Bike pants with a pair of MEC riverpants on top to act as a wind breaker
-Long sleeve MEC shirt
-Vest (this is the extra layer)
-MEC bike jacket
-Balaclava
-Ski mitts
-Ski goggles

Cycling Thread
I've had the road bike set up on the trainer for a week now.

Couldn't let this sunny day go to waste. Went for a rip up The Nose. Amazing to be out riding at the end of November like this. That wind though....Anyone riding west tonight, uhm, have fun!

Bike Trainer Question.
What is the difference between the $100 bike trainers and the more expensive version. If I am looking for a no frills trainer what is the minimum spend to get something that I won't regret buying in 3 months. Essentially want it to work mechanically but no tracking or electronic features required.

Go an Kijiji and find something for 1/2 of the price that has barely been used. You will want a smooth tire, so budget for that, or maybe they throw one in. Bare minimum you want magnetic or fluid. Magnetic will be cheaper. I've got a magnetic that works fine.
Something like this would do:

If you want to learn more about various trainers:
https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/10/...endations.html
We have CycleOps trainers; quite easy to use and set up. Here is one on right now:

Get a trainer tire, or at least an older smooth one. You may need a trainer skewer as well if you're buying used. Don't forget a block for your front wheel. The CycleOps triangular one is nice, it is stable and you can pick different heights.

Still not that bad though! A little frost build up on the bike by the end of the ride.

Feel like a pansy. Sick this week, so I did't ride again today. Hopefully tomorrow.

I'm still rocking my Swany Toaster mitts that I've had for at least 15 years. They keep my hands plenty warm. They have the glove inside and there is lots of room to throw a little heat pack in for super cold days.

I think the problem with mine is they have fabric on the front, so the cold air goes through. I think I'll put poggies on the xmas list. Anyone have recommendations? Thinking bar mitts....

^ what is your budget for bar mitts - the 45Nrth ones look awesome but are close to $200.
I bought some cheaper ones last yr for around $80 and they worked well for fat biking, just wore a pair of thicker mtn bike gloves underneath - no issues. longest ride was around 90 minutes at -20 something
bought a pair of lobster gloves at a sidewalk sale at pure, still wiaiting to try them out

Not my budget, Christmas list! Those look a bit more extreme than I need. It's only a 20 minute ride. I looked at the MEC ones but want something that stays open and they are fairly poorly reviewed. Which ones did you get?

My wife would put me outside if I brought my commuter inside! The MTB and road bike get the deluxe treatment though.

The MEC ones suck. So much so, that if you want a free pair of barely used ones, you can have mine.
They are too floppy to get your second hand in. That's what she said?

Not riding today, my neighbour is going to put on the studded tires for me and give the bike a quick tune-up. Looking forward to riding tomorrow.
