Damn, I just spent $16 on Transunion credit score 2 days ago! I've shared this to others. Thanks.

Nothing is free. Not even a credit check.
They are doing this because the information and marketing they receive from you is valuable.
Why else would they need your annual income? Its so they can market to you.
I'd suggest staying away.

Yeah, you're putting in all your contact information and your income and giving them permission to periodically check your credit score and present "recommendations and offers".
Bad news imo.

A member of the Borrowell team addressed some of these concerns in the RFD threads...
Quote:
To clarify, we're not selling your data, or sharing it without your express written consent. We hate spam as much as you do. Basically, we want to use this credit score product as a way to boost brand awareness and to use it as an education platform.
If you decide to check your score with us we will periodically send you custom-Borrowell vetted offers tailored to your profile. We promise it won't be an onslaught. If we see an opportunity for you to save money based on your credit profile, we will point it out. If you decide to use from that offer, we earn a fee, you will save money, and the 3rd party-partner will gain a new customer.
We're only going to send an offer if we think there is a reasonably high probability that it will be of value. I guess the most important thing here is that you are under no obligation use any of the offers. As noted elsewhere, you can unsubscribe from Borrowell marketing offers at any time, and we'll still update your score every three months for free.

I'd trust the reviews of Money Sense magazine, BNN, Financial Post, CBC, and others before I got too worked up about it.
mogo.ca and creditkarma.ca also offer this service.
In fact, any loan or bank transaction is much the same.

I wouldn't be too concerned about using this one.

I have credit alert with Equifax...so I can't retrieve my FREE credit report. I can only get my reports quarterly on my current Equifax subscription. I just got a report in OCT, so I have to wait.

If the product is free, you are the product (or you are stealing)

Many credit cards in the USA just give you your credit score. You can literally check it 24/7 by just logging into your credit card portal.
I wish Canada had something like this, but I guess Equifax needs to eat too.
