I thought once he flipped back with Monahan and played with the 4th line he played much better. Seemed a bit nervous and most shifts never had the puck on his stick until the 3rd where he started to look more comfortable. He also won 5 of 8 face offs which from what I have read is something he is known for being good at

Good enough that could you see him staying with the big team for a while, or is he not ready yet?

I can think of 2 Flames players (Hunter Shinkaruk and Freddie Hamilton) who’s minutes I’d rather see go to Jankowski if the Flames are serious about giving him a solid look.

Fair assessment?

Personally, I would rather switch Bennett to the wing for the time being and have Janko take one of the center spots due to his size, faceoff and defensive ability.
Once everyone is healthy you can have lines like this
Gaudreau-Monahan-Versteeg/Brouwer
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Bennett-Stajan/Jankowski-Versteeg/Brouwer
Ferland-Stajan/Jankowski-Bouma/Hathaway/Chiasson
and I think those would be more able to generate offense and be better defensively at the same time than the team was earlier in the year.

looked like an NHLer to me. Great size, skates well, defensively sound, won 5 out of 8 on the dot. Certainly encouraging.
what really stood out to me again is his size. If you look at videos from his draft year and compare that lanky kid to his current frame, it's really amazing. Speaks volumes about his work ethic too.

Agreed, I could see the following (no injuries)
Gaudreau-Monahan-Brouwer
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Bennett-Jankowski-Versteeg
Ferland-Stajan-Hathaway
Bouma/Chiasson

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Yes please. These lines are perfect...in my dream world where the Flames win the cup in 3 years.

A small sample size, but he looked pretty good.
As others have said - good speed and size. Very good positioning. Made smart defensive decisions.
Imo he played well enough to earn more games.

I thought he was ok.
I don't think I'd go as far as solid, or good.
I mean, he didn't stand out for being not able to keep up at the NHL level, but he didn't show anything to help cement his place on an NHL roster either. I mean if I wasn't watching specifically for Jankowski, I wouldn't have noticed him.
He played well enough to get another look I think.

Well, he didn't do a spin-o-rama on a shootout attempt, that's for sure.

Damn. If the top line can get on track, Janko settles in at the NHL level, and everyone else plays up to their potential, that's a pretty good looking lineup right there.

Really? He already looks like he can bring the bare minimum what Stajan and Freddie bring - faceoffs, defense etc. He hasn't killed penalties yet, but there's nothing to suggest he can't do that at the NHL level. He also has an offensive skillset the team desperately needs from the centre ice position, especially since Bennett seems unlikely to figure that out this year.
The team without Gaudreau has an appalling lack of skill - Jankowski helps with that, and I'd hope we see him prove to the management that he belongs up here full time. They're 25th in the league, yet only 2 points out of the playoffs. The current group of replacement level veterans populating the bottom six aren't going to cut it - if the Flames are to have any chance of this season being saved, players like Jankowski, Mangiapane, Kylington, Klimchuk have to force the door open and put people like Chiasson on waivers.

It should be if Monahan and Gaudreau can be themselves again somehow.
