Shawville north of Super Store development
Does anyone know what is going on in that area that I think was home to a church at one time. For years it was unofficial parking to jump on the CTrain at Shawnessy station. There has been what appears to be infrastructure work going on for a good few months now. At first I thought maybe that was all there was to it, but it seems like it is being prepared for development now. Does anyone know for what. It would have to be commercial I would think given its bordering McLeod Trail, Shawnessy and Shawville Blvds. It would seem to be a pretty good commercial location....

Looks like they're just prepping it for use:
Quote:
In this first stage of development, the area will be closed off to the public and heavy equipment will begin earthwork and the construction of underground water utilities, a roadway, sidewalk and street lighting.
Once complete, the property will be subdivided into lots for mixed-use development, which can include a combination of residential, office and commercial space. This type of development is most commonly used in Transit Oriented Developments to take advantage of nearby transit options and reduce the need for personal motor vehicles.

I can't imagine it would be sought after for residential. Seems like it would be a pretty busy, noisy area. Commercial would seem more likely. Good to know, perhaps it will bring some new retailers to the area. I think the area is missing a few names including, London Drugs and Save On Foods.

London drugs would be appropriately sized for that area, but it's much too small for a grocery store. And they've been developing that area since April this year. I used to park there for c train access.

Would another grocery store want to go there? You have a Walmart, Co-op, Superstore, Sobeys, and Safeway all within 1km of that site.

I think as part of the development they should put some low income housing with main floor retail. It would be an excellent location as the it's close to both grocery stores and transit making it a great location to be car less.

That's a pretty good idea, GGG. Really a perfect location for something like that. The residential could be closer to the shawville side, and maybe some low rise office space on the mcleod side. It's not a huge site, but it's big enough for a creatively designed mix.
