That's a goal that every single goaltender in the NHL has given up, even the greatest.

His record is 0% relevant to how he played tonight.

Monahan was much improved. The team played well (as they have during this trip), and more importantly: played well in front of Elliott.

They didn't play well enough to win. They needed to bury more chances. But if you want to jump on the doom and gloom bandwagon, go crazy.

I saw a few key individuals and the team as a whole that played a lot better than two weeks ago. That's what we're looking for: improvements.
I disagree.

Tonight's game was a boring, nearly unwatchable game of hockey. For much of the game, the Flames were absolutely atrocious in their own end. The defense is, outside of Hamilton and Giordano, horrendous. Dennis Wideman needs to find another place to play, whether that be on another NHL team, in the AHL, or in Europe. He simply is not a fit on this defence.

Brian Elliott had a good game, when compared to his other starts this season. However, there is absolutely no disputing that he has not come as advertised. The entire team played awfully in overtime, but Elliott really should have had that puck. It was a slow puck heading wide, that, yes, was tipped, but it wasn't amazingly-placed. It hit Elliott in the chest and bounced through him. That is a weak, weak goal.

Monahan looked much improved, but there's still a very long way to go, IMO. He still looks slow on the backcheck, and his offensive zone anticipation and, obviously, production is well off his usual standards.

This is not a good team. I'm not on any "doom and gloom" bandwagon, but what I see in these Flames is a team that has played more games than anyone else in the NHL yet is tied for 25th in the overall standings. For a cap team, that's unacceptable.

And I get that this is a team on a back-to-back... but they couldn't win the first game against Philadelphia, either.

Change needs to happen, here. It's not "too early", anymore -- we're 25 games in, now.

Offense is struggling no doubt about it. I think the Reffing has been unfairly called against us through this road trip, which is no excuse by all means, it's just hard to gain traction on the PP when it's that lopsided.
Ours. Theirs.
0/1 @ 0/4 NYI
1/1 @ 1/6 Philly
0/1 @ 0/4 Boston
1/3 @ 0/4 Columbus
0/2 @ 3/6 Buffalo
0/2 @ 0/2 Detroit
0/5 vs 1/1 Chicago

That's a very low total of PP total over the longest road trip of the year, a little over 1.5 per game versus the 4.2ish per game PK. Hard to get good at something your bad at when you don't get the chances - and there were many missed calls over that road trip.

Flames PK is much improved and our overall D is much improved, we're out shooting the opp on some nights now and have battled through injuries here - especially Johnny and Versteeg. I think we aren't that bad all things considered, let's have a good 4-5 game stretch here I say!

Yeah, I think they did just fine considering what they had to deal with.

The Islanders were resting for the last 2 nights. Flames played last night.

It's like you're not even allowing yourself to consider that these are human beings and not robots.
Ran out of thanks but I feel like I am taking crazy pills with how much you need to say this. Brutal schedule trip, take 7/12 points. Ran out of gas at the end but stayed in it. What more are people asking?

Those lower points are key.. We haven't had enough of those lately. That was a brutal road trip scheduling wise. I'm happy for them

Boy, I really like the way Ferland is playing. Using his size, moving his feet, generating chances.

Wish others would bring that kind of energy. It is sorely needed right now.

Think everyone is being too harsh on Elliott on that last goal... thought he played well the whole game and that last one was a tough save no matter who's in net.

How can the team to have such a horrible PP but cannot come up a way to deal with it. 30th PP in the league, and keep playing the same. That's unacceptable

Elliott gave us a chance to win when we couldn't find our offence.

Right, and this team is playing so much better than it was 10, 15, 20 games ago. They're getting it. Change is happening through actual improvement over time. What do you want? A trade? A firing?

Your analysis of the defence is way off. Brodie had a solid game, Kulak looks like he's going to be a good second pairing guy. Our guys suited to the final pairing (Wideman, Joki, Eng) shocking have looked like bottom pairing guys! I know. Bizarre.

Elliott has struggled. Nobody is saying he hasn't but to look at a game he actually played well in and use that as your jumping off point just makes it look like you aren't watching, or you're part of the small crowd that is just into ragging on the team for whatever, whenever.

Wideman, Hamilton, Elliott, Monahan. Whoever you pick the whipping boy to be, make sure they at least played a bad game. Monahan has improved but has a long way to go? No kidding. Did you think he'd go from playing poorly to an all-star within one game? Losing confidence is easy, it takes time to get it back.

Sorry you're tired of losing (we all are), but losing a hard fought game at the end of a back to back that comes at the end of 6 games in 9 nights on the road isn't really indicative of how the season has gone.

This team looked better tonight in a loss than they did in any of their few wins near the start of the season.

This season is tough. We all get it. But we're a bunch of losers if we can't even rally behind a team that's getting it together and improving.
