I like your enthusiasm, but the only way the Flames can dig themselves out of the hole is to find their offence and improve the PP. You're not gonna win many games in this league if you can't score more than 1 or 2 goals per game.

Bottom line is they have to score more than one goal.
Elliott has simply had such a rough go that he's had the fanbase turn on him, so they have the knives out for the first opportunity to stick him.

It's the most complicated and technical position in all of hockey, and I think it's hard for some fans to wrap their minds around that intricacy. If a shot goes in, no matter what, it's just the goaltender's fault. If it's a clear shot, it's definitely the goalie's fault. There's a reason players are considered skilled and talented, and it's because they can snipe those areas of the net and beat elite tenders.

Sorry to rant.

What's even worse about Gulutzan and his "system" is Gallant is sure to be scooped up by some team before the offseason. Probably LV.

Smart move by the captain. Take no chances and take the point heading into OT.

Well, come on. It's the NHL. None of the saves are easy.

But comparatively, that save should have been significantly easier than many others Elliott actually made in the game.

He seems to give up a muffin every single game. 3-8-1 is an atrocious record for any goalie, and for a 2-time All-Star... something isn't right.

Yeah, that's not a muffin, nor is it a bad shot to give up, nor did he have a bad game. There are 5 different players immediately responsible for that goal just as much (or more) than Elliott and 3 of them play for the Flames. That's a goal that every single goaltender in the NHL has given up, even the greatest.

His record is 0% relevant to how he played tonight.

Monahan was much improved. The team played well (as they have during this trip), and more importantly: played well in front of Elliott.

They didn't play well enough to win. They needed to bury more chances. But if you want to jump on the doom and gloom bandwagon, go crazy.

I saw a few key individuals and the team as a whole that played a lot better than two weeks ago. That's what we're looking for: improvements.

Yeah shrug it off whatever you want but ask anyone whos not a flames fan about Monahans plays. (Or anyone whos not a kool aid drinking fan), he shouldn't play like this if he makes 6millions a year, I dont give a rats ass how young he is, money talks. He can't drive a play by himself more than I. Oh and I'm pissed.

Well the Islanders are the worst team in the league, so if a 2-1 OTL against a dumpster fire of an opponent is considered good this team is as good as done for the season.

Gallant's system isn't terribly different. Strong puck support all over the ice, short passes to get out of trouble and move the puck up ice, lots of cycle game down low.

Yeah I'm not apologizing for any players in the mess that has become the 2016/17 season but blaming Elliott for that last goal is simply scapegoating as the puck was going 3 feet wide and deflected at an angle that you could practice 25 times and not make it squeeze in between his pad and the post.

When you're tired AF? Played more than any other team in the last 10 day period? Doing it all on the road no less with a LOT of travel?

Yeah, I think they did just fine considering what they had to deal with.

The Islanders were resting for the last 2 nights. Flames played last night.

It's like you're not even allowing yourself to consider that these are human beings and not robots.

Yeah, for such a smart player pretty much all the time, he got completely lost on that one. And nobody can, will, or even should give you a stick in that situation.

Kind of a no-win situation for him, which led directly to not winning.

Anyway, 7 out of 12 possible points is pretty good considering what I'm sure most of us were expecting when they left on this trip.

Honestly I think that the Flames looked like a team that just ran out of gas. Can't blame them with 6 games in 9 nights on the road. Sure the East coast is close but when it's a new hotel room every night you have to start to feel it. Has any team played more than the Flames this year?

After Johnny got hurt I figured 2/6 on this trip, 3/6 would be good.. anything more would be a successful trip. They did that tonight. 7/12 points is a 96 point pace over the whole season, so if every 6 games go like that it's the playoffs. Sure they need to catch up but a 6 game roadtrip out east isn't where you do it.. it's where you hang on to give yourself a chance closer to home.

Lots of positives - Ochocinco basically claiming the net, Tkachuk continues to ramp it up, Hamilton has turned on the offense, Brodie looks more comfortable. Time for the boys to get home and build on this trip, not dwell on a single lost point tonight.
