Girly usually goes for the quasi devil's advocate role, not some well thought out troll like Buster would do. It's fine to me and to most people here. Plus she's about as non-confrontational as it gets for a message board, which is not what a troll would be doing.

I see no problem with anything she's posted. She's creating conversations. So what if she's not typing out a thesis? I never understood why some of her posts enrage people. It seems to happen when she makes crazy NHL rules suggestions. Sure they are totally nuts and unfeasible, but who cares? They are interesting. If you hate it that much just scroll past.

And as the argument goes: if you hate posts like the ones you take issue with, just scroll past!
Are we still allowed to engage in the conversation, which is what 90% of the responses to her "petty" post were? 2 people commenting on her style in the midst of an actual conversation between several people is probably not worth commenting on in my opinion. Especially when one of the guys is jayswin, commenting on other posters style is legitimately all I've ever seen him do. Let him have his schtick.

I am so on board with you, the hyper reactive rhetoric from some posters is ridiculous. We all have silly ideas and word things imperfectly at times, the over reactions are rarely (if ever) productive. So what if someone has a goofy idea, that's how things are supposed to be. Sometimes a simple I disagree would be infinitely more productive than the harshness so many are willing to throw around.

Would you like to feel sorry for Rudy Giuliani? Well of course you don't. But you just might when you read this article. His desperation to get SoS is pretty pathetic.

I like it. She seems open to listening to all sides and seems to enjoy the discussions.
I noticed her stance on immigration in the States was quite different than her stance on the Chinese Millionaire Migration and how it is making real estate unattainable for many Canadians. Why a wall there but not here? Instead of our jerbs, it's our homes! j/k
Maybe we need a Girly Sports sub-forum. And GS, if you are reading this, I hope you know that I think you are great even if I don't agree with you on everything.

The notion that standards of civility depend on how much you dislike someone, or how civil they are, is childish.
Oh YEAH, well HE did it FIRST!!

Sounds like you need a safe space from all this uncivilised behaviour.

I believe those are two totally different issues. millionaire migration is legal. i don't think that thread was addressing the legalities of immigration. it was discussing the legality of housing laws.
this year the trudeau government has decreased millionaire immigration and increased family immigration which I support.
the illegal immigration problem in the states is a totally different can of worms.

Please let the recount show a tie. Because 2016 needs more drama.

Odds he mysteriously jacks up the rent before this happens?
Quote:
The Secret Service is in negotiations with the Trump Organization to take over two vacant floors in the gilded 68-story Fifth Avenue tower, law enforcement sources told The Post.
The federal agency and the NYPD plan to run a 24/7 command post out of the space that would be housed at least 40 floors below Trump’s $90 million penthouse triplex, where wife Melania and their 10-year-old son Barron will continue to reside at least through the spring, sources said.
The first 26 floors of the glass-clad skyscraper are commercial tenants while the remaining levels are luxury apartments.
But several commercial floors are currently vacant, sources said. The Secret Service is eyeing two contiguous floors for over 250 agents and cops, sources said.
The Secret Service must protect the president and his family wherever they go, including visits back to their permanent homes.
For example, the Secret Service paid Vice President Joe Biden $2,200-a-month, to rent out a cottage next to his Wilmington, Del. home, according to a 2011 article in The Washington Times.
And when President Barack Obama spent summer vacations on Martha’s Vineyard and his annual Christmas vacation to Hawaii, his security detail rented private homes and hotel rooms and set up land and sea perimeters over the short stay.
The same is expected when Trump visits his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida as he and his family are doing for the Thanksgiving weekend. Similarly, it cost roughly $2 million a year for the U.S. Coast Guard to station boats off the coast of George H. W. Bush’s Kennebunkport, Maine estate during his presidency.
But in the case of Trump Tower, taxpayers would be paying the president-elect’s own corporation to lease the two floors, aside from the cost of agents, staff and equipment and barriers that are normal in such cases.
The lease deal alone could cost more than $3 million a year, based on prevailing rates in the building.

Vanity Fair is a great magazine. They cover film and TV but they put out great articles they are well researched and in-depth. If you just look at the cover and never actually read the articles inside you would think it is an entertainment mag, but they always have a lot of good thought-provoking articles.

I feel like the Washington Post really separated itself during the election cycle. Pretty much the premiere newspaper.

That's funny because if you google vanity fair, these are the featured articles from their site:
Five Bad Ass Female Spies Who Deserve Their Own WWII Movie
The Most Lavish High Society Parties of the Last Half Century
Yes, Viola Davis is Going to Win an Oscar This Year
Guess Which World Leader Got a Building Permit After a Friendly Chat with Argentina's President
Riveting stuff for sure.

Other than the Oscar story the other 3 sound interesting to me. The titles are click-baity but I guess that is the world we live in nowadays.
I just checked out this issue and some of the featured articles are an interview with Obama, a piece about Johnny Manziel's fall, an article about the Band by Robbie Robertson...personally that's why it is one of my favourite magazines. They cover everything and do it well.

First and foremost, Vanity Fair is a publication that focuses on society and culture. Every so often they get invested in an issue where they do some excellent investigative journalism and they make a change with their reporting. Kind of like Rolling Stone, who is primarily a magazine focusing on music and the music sub-culture. Don't judge a publication by its cover or its headlines. Judge it on the important information they share with the public. Vanity Fair has a solid history of presenting thought-provoking information on variety of important subjects. For example these top rated pieces from the past few years:
The Case of the Vanishing Blonde
The Genesis 2.0 Project
The Distant Executioner
Beware of Greeks Bearing Bonds
The Front Page 2.0
And pretty well anything from their Crime Archive. Sigh. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Now I regret my wife canceling her subscription a few years ago when we changed addresses.
