Ya, the dollar sucked but getting rooms with kitchens is very easy and makes life easier.
We've also considered a trip to Oregon. Did you drive? And where did you stop and stay en route?

We did Oregon last year. Driving and camping. We did the Coast and more inland. The Coast was beautiful, but for us, we got bored. We like Hood River and Bend better. We were biking and hiking though. We had a 6 year old with us. We are going back this year, but skipping the coast altogether.

I love Oregon. The drive down the PCH to California is spectacular (some of the most scenic roads on earth in my opinion), and there are campgrounds everywhere if you're into that. Astoria and Cannon Beach are places you should definitely stop. Lots of great places in and around Portland too.

You could always head down to Argentina and check out Patagonia.

What? Its driveable...if you're brave enough...

Plus you'd have the notoriety of being the first to cross the Darien Gap in a minivan

You could leave the minivan on the other side as an eternal monument!

On the way there or back you have to stop at Crater lake which is a little inland from the southern end of the coast and one of the most amazing places on earth.

Oh crap I forgot all about that. I was going to book something somewhere soon.

If you have time to do a big loop, Yellowstone/Jackson then heading west to the Oregon coast is a great trip.
