Not sure if I want to shell out $350 for a vacuum. Is that really how much it costs to get a decent one?
TL;DR Dyson are a nice low maintenance vacuum that performs quite well. I haven't seen many decent options for prices less than Dyson unless you literally don't really need a vacuum in general. Then I have a suggestion in the spoilers.

IMO no. But Dyson and Miele are probably the only ones I've personally used that don't easily lose suction within a year.
Dyson has a big ass filter on the top of the canister. Due to the size, I haven't seen it plugged, ever. My parent's 6-7 year old Dyson had some fine grey particulates that were clinging to the inside cylinder that needed removal. It took a very light poking to remove (didn't have suction issues though). The Miele is a bit different as it uses a bag.
Another funky one is the Rainbow vacuums which make use of water to keep particulates from flying around. This one is supposedly often linked MLM marketing companies though. For those complaining about Vision's salesmen, really have no idea how crazy MLM members can get.
Most other vacuums work great for the first little bit, then I have to disassemble them to clean the filters etc before they "suck/start sucking" again. This is further annoying with paper, cloth or cheap foam filters. They work fine at their price point, but only (IMO) if you're willing to clean those filters every month or two. All vacuums (Dyson/Miele) included will on occasion require a bit of cleaning of the spinning head as long hairs wrap around the spinner. Dyson also has some very cool and interesting heads that can be attached to the vacuum.
I've had to clean a plethora of cheap vacuums at work and for friends that were just plugged within months of use. This included Dirt devils, Hoovers, Bissell and possibly a few others I can't remember. We are talking so little suction, the damn thing probably couldn't suck up a ping pong ball because of how plugged it is.
Do you need a Dyson? No. But a few positives of the Dyson are:
1. Less plugging of filters (like almost forever, but if you have pets or just lose hair as much as a pet, perhaps every few years you might want to check to see if there's a hairball clogging something)
2. 90s Nerf-like or space weapon look. The Dyson ball cannot beat a canister or hand held for maneuverability, but it hands down kills the cheap cheap stand up models in all movement categories other than perhaps weight.
3. It sucks. . In a good sucking way.
4. It's a post modern piece of art.
5. It seriously gets stuff that other vacuums cannot get due to lack of suction.
If you still don't want to spend a couple hundred bucks, I guess IMO, the Bissell zing isn't bad overall.
Great for light carpet cleaning and hard floors. If you have more serious carpet, all I'll say: "There's a reason why there aren't many Dyson owners with bad things to say about their Dyson other than cost."

It seems like the Shark Rocket Vacuum that Canadian Tire has for sale has some really great reviews. I need to vacuum 2 rooms in my condo, so maybe this is an interesting option:
I have that Shark vacuum and love it. Comes with great pieces that work wonders for your car.
But again don't believe the $280 previous price. They go for about $180 usually so that is a good deal but not as good as Scamadian tire wants you to believe.
Buy it from Costco and if it breaks down in its lifetime you get your money back.

Bought the Dyson package from Costco, comes with some extra add ons not a lot but just a good price. No regrets. Every time I vacuum my carpet it looks brand new again. If you have a pet this thing will find hair you had no idea was in there.
As far as on laminate or tile, I could take it or leave it versus the competitors, but one thing I do like about it is that if I run it parallel to my walls it actually sucks right up against the baseboard versus having to take the end out to scratch everything up. I mostly just like how easy it is to clean out. Literally take the filter out run it under water let it dry pop it back in, done. To empty I just press one button to unhook the cannister, hold it over the garbage and press another to open the hatch.
They also have a great warranty and legendary customer service team that will help you out (that is correct, legendary, almost as legendary as a Sous-vide will cook a steak!!!), I haven't had any problems with mine but a friend had his start to fail just outside of the warranty and they still mailed him the part. Also buying from Costco has its own built in warranty..

It seems like the Shark Rocket Vacuum that Canadian Tire has for sale has some really great reviews. I need to vacuum 2 rooms in my condo, so maybe this is an interesting option:
Might be a good buy depending on how regularly you use that vacuum.

I've heard good things about Shark vacuums, but I've never used one or tinkered with one before, so I can't really prove or disprove that product. However, most reviews I've read seem to indicate Shark vacuums suction is great as long as it isn't clogged. The unit you linked seemed to discuss the idea that it cannot lose suction or power (but I don't know if it's "never have ZERO suction" vs "overall suction should be consistent for the life of the vacuum barring some weird non-typical clog" like Dyson are supposed to deal with). I wonder if it's a Shark with a new re-design without filter clogging issues, or if you'd have to clean the filters out every few months to keep the initial level of suction.
I haven't read recent reviews of Shark vacuums, but a few years back a chart I saw seemed to indicate the suction power of a Dyson doesn't significantly diminish over time.
EDIT: It's this chart in the link below and obviously biased, but based on my personal experiences, this chart does seem somewhat reasonable based on anecdotal evidence and personal usage of Dyson products. Even after half a decade, my parents' old school Dyson ball was still better than several brand new Bissell and Hoover vacuums. I got sick of the regular cleaning of my vacuum, junked it after 2 years and got myself a Dyson a year ago based purely on my experiences with my parent's Dyson.

So Best Buy has this Stork crib on sale for 249, they are claiming it is 210 bucks off. I go look at Wal-Mart they have the same crib on for regular price cheaper than best buys sale price. I thought they were above the Visions tactics?
