Canucks and Senators can't break a tie...
Record (3-2-1)
Game story -
Radek Dvorak scored a clutch goal in the 3rd period, pushing tonight's tilt with the Ottawa Senators to overtime. The extra frame solved nothing and each team left the building with a point. Vetran Dallas Drake's hot streak continues, as he notched two assists this evening. Drake now has a six game point streak.
The special teams continue to be an issue. The powerplay is performing poorly, while the penalty kill is one of the best in the CPHL. Bizzare.
Powerplay: 0 / 4
Penalty kill: 8 / 8
Winner of the Marshmallow (Unsung Hero) Award: Glen Wesley (played 22 minutes and notced both a goal and an assist)
Up next: Phoenix Coyotes

Jets win back to back games for the first time this year and are now on a 2 game winning streak! Johnson outplays Wanks, maybe it was a good trade after all. More tomorrow after I sleep off my drinks.

Hawks Beat The Snot Out Of Nords
The home town fans were treated to a display of gluttony tonight as the Hawks embarrassed the visiting Nords outscoring them 9-2. Roberto Luongo came into this game labeled the only player on the Nords worthy of being on the team. Evidently this statement,
"I'm just glad I got rid of him (Savard), and picked up Luongo. There's no way I would want Savard at 5+, but that's why I'm the GM in Quebec. And that's probably why I only have Luongo and some washed up retiring has-beens on my roster."
by the Nords GM was meant to fire up the team. It had the opposite effect as player after player looked like they were competing for a ticket out of town!
The Hawks have struggled since the beginning of the season, but are perhaps beginning to gel under the apparent trade moratorium of the GM.

Pens beat Bruins; Stay atop Imlach The Pittsburgh Penguins handed division rival Boston its third straight loss with a 5-2 thumping Friday night. The Pens looked to be in control early when Alexei Kovalev and Todd Bertuzzi scored 1st period goals to give the Pens a 2-0 lead after one. Boston stormed back in the second period with goals by Jere Lehtinen and Andrew Brunette to tie the game heading into the final period. The Pens took control of the game in the 3rd with Bertuzzi scoring his second of the night, Marian Hossa, and Jason Spezza adding unanswered goals to give the Pens a 5-2 win.
With the win the Pens remained 1 point ahead of the Montreal Canadiens for the top spot in the Imlach division. The Pens now have only 2 games in the next 10 days as they don't play until hosting the Jackets on Wednesday before traveling to Montreal for a key matchup with the Habs the following Tuesday.

HOWL!
2-1 OT win for 'Yotes in St Louis.
Handzus gives St Louis the blues. After his first game as GM, Halifax Drunk is off to a good start. In a surprise move Curtis Joseph got the start and proved his worth (possible trade bait) and grabbed the 2nd star with 20 saves.
With Ovechkin in the box in OT for hooking Handzus undressed Hasek in a move that will be on highlight reels for years to come.
"I've seen him practice that move, but I can believe he pulled off a double spinorama, between the legs, one handed, top shelf shot." - Chris Neil.
Alexi Ponikrovsky stepped up to the plate after GM Drunks challenge yesterday about "No wimpy players" with a gritty goal in the 2nd period. He took a cross check to the back of the head from Crosby and on the delayed penalty scored short side to tie the game at one.
The Coyote players were trying to make a good first impression and stepped it up nicely sweeping the 3 star selections.
Game Stars
1 - Alexei Ponikarovsky (COY)
2 - Curtis Joseph (COY)
3 - Martin Skoula (COY)
The Coyotes now get 4 days off before GM Drunk makes his home debut VS the Canucks on Wednesday.

Sabres get a good win
Sabres 4 Flyers 2
Well this was a game the team needed to win, but they did it in comprehensive fashion badly outshooting the Flyers. All 4 of the newly reshuffled lines scored for Buffalo. Still this win may not have prevented schizo-Loob from trading the guy he said was safe from trades.

CANADIENS WIN AGAIN!
For the second straight game the Canadiens win by a 4-2 score. After relying on Thomas Vokoun to carry the load against Leafs on Wednesday night, the rest of the team came together to play better team defence. "We we're outshot 33-19 and we're out worked in every period. If it wasn't for a couple breaks we wouldn't have had such a favorable result. Tonight we wanted to play better in front of Thomas Vokoun. We accomplished that allowing only 19 shots." Said Bob Gainey during the press conferance followign the game.
The Habs also fired 28 shots at Mikka Kiprusoff, finding the back of the net 4 times. Jovanovski was named the games first star as he blasted the eventual game winner and the insurance goal in the second period. Jovo also added an assist. As important was Jovo's strong defensive effort. The entire team held the Flames to just 2 shots in the final frame. The newly formed checking line of Modano, Kozlov and White had a strong game. A few eyebrows were raised in the press box when Modano was seen skating on the 3rd line. When questioned about the line-up bob Gainey replied "we have alot of talent on our club, we need all of our guys to play defence. We've been trying to get Modano going all season, by spreading out our offense even more it gives the other teams too much to try and match up against. With Tkachuk and Alfredsson on the top line, St.Louis and Shannahan on the second line and Modano on our third line we're able to spread around the scoring. It worked tonight. Guys like White, Kozlov Reinprecht and Madden are all versitile as well, they are comfortable playing on any line, it really gives us a lot of options to compete against the strengths of different team. "
Will the Canadiens continue to use Modano on the third line? Not likely, Gainey really likes to move around his players and try different combinations. Look for Stlouis, Reinprecht and Tkachuk to be reunited soon. The line was hot for the first few games and preseason. They had a couple poor showings and were split up the last couple games.

Oil fall just short, get bit by the Panthers
With the Panthers in town sporting an unbeaten streak of 5, this became an early season challenge. But two unanswered second period goals by the Panthers proved to be the difference. It was starting to look like overtime until Drury broke the tie at the 17:23 mark of the third.
Guy did not look very happy at the post game gathering outside the Oil locker room. “You have to play 60 minutes in this league, day in and day out if you want to succeed. Today we just came out flat in the second and it cost us. What did we get credit for maybe 4 shots in the second. And one was a clearing play from our end. We need to get some offense going. Jeff going down the mid way through the third did not help as we skated with out RW Patrice as well”.
The Oil now rest up for Nashville in 5 days from now.

Power Surge
Heading into Friday's game vs. the Jackets, The Wild power play was meandering along at a paultry 7% success rate.
After the game, the powerplay now sits second in the entire CPHL.
So yes - the Wild had a good night with the extra man. 6/9 in fact.
The Wild rode the strength of their special teams to a 7-5 win over Columbus and remain unbeaten in 5 games.
Peter Bondra finally broke out with a 1 goal, 3 assists performance. Hank Zetterberg, Paul Kariya, Kim Johnsson, Nik Kronvall (with his first CPHL goal), Scott Gomez, and Rusty Klesla also had goals in the victory. Head coach Andy Murray said it was good to see Bondra get back on track.
"Peter has been putting too much pressure on himself. Tonight we juggled things up and to try a different line for him and clearly it worked. We are also encouraged by what we are seeing from our power play now. Though we still have to tighten up defensively...giving up far too many goals right now."
