Adding Las to it would have made all the difference in the world to me. Vegas on it's own looks and sounds terrible. It would be like if our local team was the St. John Flyers or John Flyers instead of Fort St. John Flyers
Nevada Golden Knights would have worked for me. Or even Las Vegas Nights or Nevada Nights (No K). Oh well, atleast the primary logo (only because of the V) and colour scheme are good enough
So many people worried about the Vegas thing. You all full out say "Las Vegas" every time you refer to the place? Everyone I know just says Vegas. Like another poster said it's not like this is some obscure nickname, that's what it's known as. The comparisons to saying the "Angeles Kings" or "York Rangers" are ridiculous, not a single person alive refers to either of those places by those names. I assume you all get up in arms when someone says LA Kings instead of Los Angeles Kings as well?
Focus more on the Nova helmet logo silliness, at least that's worthy of derision.

I don't mind the Vegas part, but the Golden part just doesn't seem natural. I am sure it will just take some getting used to.
"Las" is just an article and doesn't really add to the name.
No one complained about the Quebec Nordiques being just "Quebec" instead of "Quebec City". Or any New York City team simply being called "New York Whatevers".

The only time I ever hear it called Vegas is when people are planning to or are coming back from partying and getting ####faced there, so yes, it's a goofy nickname to me. Some people call Fort St. John "The John" so is the John Flyers acceptable? No, because it's a nickname. Same if it was The Hat Tigers, The Jaw Warriors or the George Cougars
At least L.A. is an actual abbreviation of the citys proper name.

I think you're reaching quite a bit to prove your point. Are you frustrated the Washington Capitals aren't called the Washington D.C. Capitals, considering that's their official name and Washington is just how people commonly refer to it?
They actually should drop it when you think about it. If you say; "The Calgary Flames are playing the Los Angeles Kings (or the Las Vegas Knights)", you are really just doubling the article.
To a fluently bilingual Spanish-English speaker (which Nevada probably has many), it would sound weird I would think.

No, you don't see the Montreal "club de hockey Canadien" in the standings, you see Canadiens. It's more of an official name, and the unofficial nickname would be The Habs. It doesn't change my point.
So in comparison, they could've went
The Las Vegas Americans, and the unofficial nickname would be "The 'Mericans"
