I think the problem is that NASA has the technology and resources to do a lot of this climate research.
Sure, they don't have to do it (they could just lend the tech and expertise) but at that point it's just sort of a waste of time and money to have two agencies on it (or a less capable agency).
The poor people that own and work at the pizza place that is at the centre of the pedophile child trafficking ring lunacy, they're constantly getting harassed and threatened, people even showing up at the place to "investigate".
Reddit finally deleted the subreddit created by these morons to share their delusion. Which of course is further evidence that the trafficking ring exists.

But certainty is an absurd one.
All I'm saying is it is weird you would have an organization with this mission:
Quote:
NOAA's Mission: Science, Service and Stewardship
1. To understand and predict changes in climate, weather, oceans and coasts;
2. To share that knowledge and information with others; and
3. To conserve and manage coastal and marine ecosystems and resources.

not be the sole organization in the US government handling the research. But government does like to waste money...Who knows...I'm sure their is some good reason, and I'd be 99% sure that reason is political graft in some form.

Wait... what??? You mean Pizzagate wasn't real??? You mean it was all BS??? Can't wait for Illuminaughty to raise his ugly head again! I think his six pages are up.
I'd just think NASA should stick to the tech and space exploration part, and leave monitoring the Earth to the agency that was setup for that...It would keep some of the politics out of it too.
This is not a terrible idea, assuming funding is still going towards Climate science through some sort of gov organization (ie NOAA).
This would allow whatever organization thats running the climate science to contract out the design of their space (and terrestrial) instruments / satellites to the growing commercial space industry utilizing a competitive bid process. This will help drive down costs (not that I think NASA is inflating costs, they do the best they can with what they have however competition is key for progress) and support the privatization of space which is truly the next frontier for human exploration, economies, and most importantly the ultimate safeguard for ensuring the ongoing survival of the human species.
Imagine Jill Stein actually ends up stopping Trump....
Quote:
Jill Stein, the Green party’s presidential candidate, is prepared to request recounts of the election result in several key battleground states, her campaign said on Wednesday.
Stein launched an online fundraising page seeking donations toward a $2m fund she said was needed to request reviews of the results in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Stein said she was acting due to “compelling evidence of voting anomalies” and that data analysis had indicated “significant discrepancies in vote totals”.
Her move came amid calls for recounts or audits of the election results by groups of academics and activists concerned that foreign hackers may have interfered with election systems.
Donald Trump won unexpected and narrow victories against Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and may yet win Michigan, where a result has not yet been declared.
The loose coalition of academics and activists, which is urging Hillary Clinton’s campaign to join its fight, is preparing to deliver a report detailing its concerns to congressional committee chairs and federal authorities, according to two people involved.
MONTPELIER, Vt. (Reuters) - Still sifting through the wreckage of the Nov. 8 election, Democratic leaders nationwide are struggling to find a new message to claw back support and avoid years in the political wilderness.
Not only do Republicans control the White House and both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives, they now hold 33 governor’s offices.
New England, long considered reliably Democratic, is a prime example of the party's demise.
Republican Phil Scott won in Vermont over Democrat Sue Minter who was criticized, like presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, for failing to develop an economic message that resonated with voters worried about good-paying jobs.
Considered a liberal bastion, Vermont has a tradition of sometimes choosing a Republican governor to keep one party from having too much control.
Elsewhere, Republican Chris Sununu will replace a Democratic governor in New Hampshire while Maine and Massachusetts already have Republican governors.
“We lost the governorship of freaking Vermont,” lamented Washington-based Democratic strategist Chris Kofinis. “We didn’t just lose an election. This was a national rebuke. This was biblical.”
Republicans also command 32 state legislatures and have full control -- meaning they hold the governor’s office and both legislative chambers -- in 24 states, including swing states such as Florida, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. When President Barack Obama was elected in 2008, they controlled just nine.
“There are more Republicans at the state legislative level than there have ever been,” said Tim Storey, an analyst with the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Republicans scored a major coup when they seized the Senate in traditionally liberal Minnesota, giving it full control of the legislature, and they gained full control of next-door Iowa.
“The party’s message, structure and apparatus are broken,” said Kofinis, who was chief of staff to moderate Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia. “We haven’t acknowledged it for years because we had the White House.”
Obama’s two terms masked a crumbling party infrastructure.
During Obama's tenure, Democrats lost over 800 state legislative seats, at least 13 governorships and both houses of Congress.
You are aware of the reasons for those numbers? Those numbers are what they are because people from Central America are crossing and surrendering looking for asylum. They are not trying to sneak in. They are fleeing violence in their own countries and hoping to find asylum by surrendering to Border agents. This is also only up in one area, and it is intentional on the part of the people trying to come to the US.
So? I mean that sucks but that doesn't make them any less illegal.

Actually, that does make them legal. They are requesting refugee status, which is a legal way to enter and stay in the country. You may claim that they cross the border illegally, but I do believe self-reporting to INS and requesting asylum gives them protected status until their case is adjudicated. They are essentially refugees.

So they cross the border, give themselves up and then start going through a process to get refugee status? That's different than border jumping and laying low until you can figure out a way to help keep the economy afloat.
Edit: If they are also coming from Central America, then why not stop once they get into Mexico and apply for refugee status there? They are out of whatever political/social dangers that threaten them in Central America, no?

Any party will look bad when you compare them to their recent high water mark. There's a reason that virtually every single 2 term President loses a lot of seats over the length of their term.
In 2008 the Democrats won the White House by 10 million votes, held 57 of 100 Senate seats, won 59% of the seats in congress, had 29 of 50 Governors, had both the House in Senate in 17 states, and at least one of the two bodies in 41 States.
By comparison the Republicans just lost the Presidential popular vote by 2+ million votes, lost ground in both the Senate and the House and now hold 51-52 of the 100 Senate seats and 55% of congressional seats. They gained a little bit of ground in state elections, but in the end they had only a net gain of 43 out of the 7383 state legislative seats.
So they're still in a far better spot than the Republicans were 8 years ago and they recovered just fine. Look at Canada. A few years ago the Liberal Party was apparently in ruin, but once people got tired of the Conservatives they handed them a majority even though the Liberals' policy changed very little in that time.
After Donald Trump's win, Yolanda Scott is upgrading the crowbar she keeps in her purse to a small-caliber pistol.
Scott, an African-American, is one of many minorities who have been flocking to gun stores to protect themselves, afraid Trump's victory will incite more hate crimes.
"You feel that racists now feel like they can attack us just because the president is doing it," one gun shop owner told NBC News.
Gun store owners told NBC News that since November 8 they're seeing up to four times as many black and minority customers — and black gun groups are reporting double the normal number of attendees at their meetings since the election.
Quote:
And Donald J. Trump's surprise victory in November has done nothing to abate the racial violence — it even seems to have encouraged more open displays of hatred. More than 700 instances have already been reported to the Southern Poverty Law Center just since November 8, and LGBT hotlines are seeing an "all-time peak" in calls from people reporting harassment.
Swastikas have been found spray-painted on churches, playgrounds, and college walls. White Texas high school students chanted "Build that wall" during a volleyball game with a predominantly Hispanic rival school. Internet personality and model Tila Tequila was suspended from Twitter after she was photographed giving a "Heil Hitler" sign at a restaurant following the post-election gathering in Washington, D.C., of the National Policy Institute, an "alt-right" organization.
"It's best that I be proactive," said Scott, a fiery 49-year-old financial analyst. "I know where I live."
Trump used the old "the enemy of my enemy" tactic to get some of the African American vote.
It's funny how people pick and chose what they want to believe though. Even after all the anti-Muslim statements, he still received support from the Nation of Islam which applauded him for standing up to Jews. Nationalists tend to stick together on many issues even when they dislike each other.
Also, not to get into semantics, but some "African-Americans" even disagree what the term means. To some, it means direct descendants of West African slaves brought to America (many of whom are actually mixed race), and for some it means any American of African descent. The distinction is often made in poorer areas where more recent African immigrants have fared really well compared to old-stock African Americans due to lingering effects of historical injustices. Divisions are more about class than skin colour.
Yes I have observed something like that here.
When Haitian immigrants came here with practically nothing and began opening businesses, getting jobs etc. the African-Americans who had been here for a few generations were extremely resentful .
There are many reasons for that, of course .
The most obvious is that they hadn't been allowed to do so themselves due to discrimination, learned helplessness and whatever else. That part is another discussion entirely, but the resentment lingers.
