They were getting badly out-shot, but I didn't think they were being out-played.

Here's the silver lining post...
Elliott looked really good for the first half of the game especially.
First goal, great defensive play by Hamilton
Bennett is looking great
Tkachuk is giving it his all in front
... That's all I've got.

I'm also the last guy to blame anything on a ref, but I was a ball of white hot rage tonight watching this one. Two calls on the same sequence, both were weak as hell, and they missed the Ristolainen dive on the 2nd call, which would have made it just a 5 on 4. Instead, it's an extended 4 on 3/5 on 3 and they score on both calls.

After that, the team was in disarray, but still rallied and tried their best to come back.

Elliott was culpable on 2 of the 4 goals (2nd and 4th), and I'd be fine with making him the backup to Johnson for the foreseeable future. His head just isn't in the right place, and he's too slow to react to everything.
They were one sided but I can't say any of the penalties called were weak calls. The Brouwer penalty is frustrating because it's exactly what didn't get called against Gaudreau, but if we want that to change we better be prepared for us to be called on it too.

Also, the Flames had a 5-on-3 tonight that they failed to score on. I'm more frustrated at the abysmal special teams than anything. If we want to know why they lose so much, that's the reason. My Sens fan buddy laughed when the Flames hired Dave Cameron, and I see why now.

Monohan's line was benched (deservedly) for awhile after the Sabres' fourth goal. Anyone know their TOI on the third?

Wow. Flames are 3 points up on last place on the teams, but these teams have played 2-4 less games. I hope management do this right this year and go all out on 30th. This team is lacking a lot of skill in all positions.

100% agree.
Very frustrating, but ultimately if it means that the refs will be watching for those slashes, I'm happy to kill the occasional extra penalty because of it.

Then the conspiracy theorist in me worries that refs will be looking to get us on those calls more because we made them look bad.

Yeah, you're wrong. They were all low danger shots on goal, except for 1 or 2.

The Flames were really playing a strong road game until the refs changed the momentum.

I agree we were completely outplayed for the second half. It was sad to watch.

Not tonight. Maybe I am wrong, just saw the look on his face as he took one of the penalties for a 5-3 pp. Stupid plays.
This team is playing like they did when Iggy was here, trying to get the coach fired. Just my opinion.

yeah, you're wrong, as usual.

go look at the GDT before the collapse. Posters were calling for the Flames' luck to change.

Sorry but you're wrong. Elliott played great and made at least 5 high danger saves in the first period alone.

How is anyone crapping on Dougie?
He was one of the only good players tonight, and has been fantastic since being paired with gio. I'm not just talking about putting up points either.
