Mice are not rats. Mice are very common in Calgary. I see them all the time at the Stampede LRT station. I've even seen them in the roof at Talisman.

Rat food is sold for people who keep domesticated rats (yes, you can keep them as pets). You know, rats for snakes, giant millipedes, lab research, that sort of thing.

A few years ago we had some mice in our house, put a trap, put peanut butter on it and soon after(like verry soon) we got one dead mouse

OK, so I tried to print off KG's image. Unfortunately, the paper jammed. And I don't mean stuck, it really "jammed".

It yelled out "WDF? Don't you be putting that image on ME!!"

Will have to try something else it seems.

I've had a slight problem with mice in my house here in Erin Woods. Must've killed atleast a dozen or so of them in the past 3-4 years. At first we used the good ol' trap with cheddar cheese, would usually catch them in a few hours, or a day or 2 tops. I'd just put on a glove and throw the whole damned thing out in the garbage (trap and mouse).

We got a cat awhile ago, and she's caught a few of them. Won't kill them but she'll play with it until the mouse is brutally injured, and can't really move a whole lot. I didn't realize how fast cats were until we got ours. My god, mice seriously don't stand a chance against a cat that's out for blood lol. If she knows an area where a mouse might be, she'll camp that sucker for aslong as it takes for the mouse to come out.

I once trapped a mouse in a pizza box I had laying on the ground from the previous night. Instead of taking the box and throwing it out, I just stomped on the POS. No mouse gets away alive in my house.

Those glue traps are horrible.

I used one of those before thinking that I could catch the mouse on the paper, peel him off, and then release him outside. It didn't quite work out that way.

Instead, the poor feller got stuck and when I looked at the paper, his feet were all twisted and broken, and his face was have peeled off with blood bubbles coming out the nose. I guess it was trying to free itself and in the process, it became all mangled.

I ended up having to take it outside and step on it.

The bucket trick works, but you need it about 1/3 full or water, and then suspend the food across the top on a string, piece of paper or a thin stick. If you have lots of mice, and you set it up properly you will be able to catch several without having to reset the trap. They try to climb across to get the food and fall into the water.

A raisin in those old fashioned traps are deadly. We have two cats that mouse and they do their best to keep up to the problem, because mice multiply like rabbits. It seems particularily bad this year, though.

Don't get me started with mice, we had a bad infestation of them at our house, and within three weeks my dad killed over 75 of them. It was rather disturbing.

Just for clarification, we next to a field, and wooded area. Also we feed birds so they'd eat what was left...

You can also put this super adhesive stuff in dark places they like to go, the mice run over it and get stuck to the adhesive. Unfortunately it gets kind of messy afterwards...
Glad Ro managed to get his unstuck alive.

Just as an FYI to all having mouse issues.... I picked up an electronic mouse trap from Home Depot for $25. Got a dud the first time (light wouldn't turn on) but its replacement works well. Came home tonight and the unit was blinking. Sure enough, there was a dead mouse inside. Easy to use, and probably the more humane way to kill them.

The Home Depot up north by the new Costco seemed to be the only one that had them in stock. Other locations had them on order.

Edit (didn't want to bump the thread though).

Got another one the morning after I set this trap up. Big one too. Nothing since then (and no indication any are around any more.) Glad that is over for now. Do like this trap and recommend it for your mice problems.
