Yep. The only player I've seen that has caught Gaudreau with a big hit was, of all people, Datsyuk. Otherwise he slips out of every attempt. Thus the slashing.

That was an awesome hit.

Despite him not having a rep for hitting, the hit was Datsyukian. Scoped him, crept up on him all quiet like, then unleashes a huge hit on an unsuspecting player. Kinda just reminding Johnny that this is the NHL.

How many minutes did Dougie play? Thought he had a good game.

Only 5 teams in the Western Conference have a positive goal differential.

Still don't get why Wideman is playing over 20min a night.

Agree, 20 min. He looked better, there were a few gaffes keeping the puck in the attack zone at the blueline but otherwise was solid.

He's not the trainwreck that he was at the start of the year. He's OK.

The team defense still needs a lot of improvement, but he's still capable of contributing.

Yeah, he's been very strong in the last two games. Played 20:31 last night.

Have only seen the first 2 periods so far (going to watch the rest when I get home from work) but I thought the Flames were by far the better team and it's good they found a way to win against a hot goalie.

Im starting to like where this team is at on the ice. The last 2 games the Flames have been more physical, playing with a chip on their shoulder. They need to consistently play that way. They've had strong sticks all year and their support cast has been phenomenal.

If their best players start being their beat players, and if they can fix their special teams and find a way to play more consistently then I feel that this could still be a playoff team.

Got to keep pushing and finding ways to win though.

While in the East, CBJ are 8-4-2 and are not in a playoff spot.

For years the West was the tougher conference. It's just evening out.

Gaudreau's injury looks like an opportunity for guys like Tkachuk and Bennett to be relied upon to produce offense. Tkachuk is already taking the ball and running with it, clearly.

Johnson is solid. Liking that signing more and more by the day.

I thought Bennett being bumped up to play with Monahan also helped produce Monahan's most effective game of the season.

Bennett looked pretty good on that line imo. His skating and net crashing made Monahan speed up and become more engaged.

This is what I hope happens with Monahan with Gaudreau out.

Play him more with Bennett, Ferland, Brouwer, etc. to get that edge in his game.

In junior he was more of a North-South player, that was physical and drove the net.

3 years of playing with Gaudreau & Hudler have turned him into trying to be more of an East-West player which doesn't fit his skill set at all IMO.

Especially in the third.

It was interesting to watch him become the catalyst on a few shifts of pressure, distributing the puck and making good plays to the slot and point.

I'm really starting to think they need to have him just be himself and not try so hard to caddy for Gaudreau. Wrecking his game.
