Ferland - Monahan - Brouwer
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Stajan - Chiasson
Shinkaruk - Vey - F Hamilton
Hmm.... Not as bad as I thought it would look. If Bennett plays well, maybe switch him with Ferland in a few weeks.

Roll the first three lines. The fourth line gets sent out to stir things up, dump chase and change.
Grind out wins in that fashion for the next month until Johnny is back.

It's weird, take Johnny out and I see a lineup of grit and sandbox hockey. With him in, I see fancy plays and high flying skating. Amazing what one player can do for perception.

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
With Gaudreau out, Sam Bennett promoted to LW on top line with Monahan/Brouwer. Linden Vey back in lineup, will centre Stajan and Chiasson.
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
So projected #Flames lines are: Bennett-Monahan-Brouwer; Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik; Stajan-Vey-Chiasson; Ferland-Hamilton-Hathaway

Tonight: Flames win another tight one 2-1.

I like it. Run with the situation we have and hopefully it turns out positive!!!

Ok i'm starting to get on the side against Gulutzan now.
The last time Shinkaruk played, I thought he was one of the most dangerous Flames. He's not perfect in the defensive end, but that's not what his skillset is.
When you lose your most skilled player, how does Shinkaruk (arguably your second most skilled player) not get back in?
Nevermind that when he does put Shinkaruk in, he's got him on the fourth line and no powerplay.
Starting to wonder if Gulutzan was a big reason why Shinkaruk was shipped out of Vancouver.

Agree with everything else you said and I personally think Gulutzan likes to play his favorites (Chiasson, Grossman, Vey, etc.) but Hunter only played 1 game in Canucks uniform. I don't think that would have been a factor in him getting traded.

Target OEL, domi, doan, etc. As hard a slash as you can deliver all night. No mercy. Don't worry about penalties. Make a clear message to the league.

He does seem to like to play his favorites, the problem is his favorites suck! I don't like Vey at all, would rather Shinkaruk in.

I don't want Vey on this lineup. Hathaway has had more impact than him and Shinkaruk combined.
Call up the bread man or the big Jankowski.
Fml.. this roster is gonna be weaksauce for a few weeks. The only hope is if they play like yesterday, scraping out 2-1 type wins. At least it's a better formula for success than the way we've been playing so far.

Shinkaruk was largely invisible in back to back games with Bennett and Brouwer, was tried on the fourth line which he isn't really suited.
If he was called up and given only a fourth line look some would have a point, but he was given prominent linemates and did nothing.
His fault? Not solely for sure, but he had his chance.
Ironically the only time he's looked dangerous is when he was on the fourth line, which to me says he needs to be more assertive - may think he has to do it on his own when he plays with stiffs but sits back too much when with skilled players.
Either way this isn't a Gulutzan issue

Game 2 of a 13-1-1 stretch. 3-1 Flames, with an empty netter.

Shinkaruk is also not the second most skilled player on this team. I will concede I'd rather see him than Vey however.

Called a Flames win yesterday and the start of a run that puts them top 3 in the division by Xmas. Going to keep that rolling and say we win again tonight

This is Bennett's time to really step up.
He's been frustrating, because you can see talent and creativity there, but he always seems to make the wrong play. Hopefully he can pull it together in the next few weeks.
I feel like Tkachuk might be the one who steps up and impresses the most though.

Lets go pickles!
Troy Brouwer "Flames can't try and be Gaudreau in his absence. Do their jobs play Sound defensively like last night. Compensate as a team."

Shinkaruk also looked threatening when he played with Johnny and Monny.. more so than any other player this year IMO.
