Then maybe they play better infront of Johnson then they do infront of Elliott?
Gives me a good enough reason to start him over Elliott going forward.

At the very least, The Flames should roll 1A / 1B until one goalie definitively cements himself as the #1. Johnson played 41 games last year, he's not a true backup.

Yes, this is probably the right call. Elliott has always done well in this scenario, and Johnson can handle the workload. If one gets hot, you stick with him until he's not hot anymore.

Why does everything have to be so dramatic and concrete?
He had a great game, so let him play the next one. Anything more than that is just another small slice of the manufactured quasi-hysteria that has consumed a small portion of this fanbase.

You continue to roll with him for sure.... is that the starters role? It's more a 1A/1B and you roll with the hot hand. Elliotte hasn't been good enough but I don't write him off.

Long-term, I'm not sure. But last game Elliott let in a really bad goal and Johnson got a shutout, so I have to go with Johnson again tomorrow night.

If Glen starts Elliott tomorrow, I'll add that to many puzzling decisions by our coach.

It's not that puzzling if he does that considering its the 2nd half of back-to-back games.
But I agree, Johnson has looked pretty good all season. I'm hoping he plays again tonight.
The way Hartley handled both goalies in the playoff season was pretty good. Win and your in. Have a bad game your out. Both Hiller and Ramo found a pretty good groove and I thought Hartley handled it extremely well.
Will GG be able to find that groove for them as well? Hard to say. I know everyone was quick to hand Elliott the reigns, but I couldn't care less about a goalie wanting to play for the Flames simply because he thinks he deserves a starters' role. You play who is hot and who you think gets you the win. Period. Right now, it's Johnson.

How will we know what he can do, if we don't give him the chance?

Chad Johnson should be given the keys to the city.

If he doesn't I will be puzzled. We need Elliott going, we are at home against a terrible Yotes squad. There is no reason to start Johnson back to back, if we are going to make a run we need both guys confident and playing well.

You aren't wrong, but the coach is clearly concerned about team confidence right now so he's probably going to go back with the guy that just gave them a shut out for the very reason you gave. They're playing a bad Coyotes team.

Back to back games with some pretty decent amount of travel, I would be surprised if he started..

Johnson's hybrid style fits this team better. Any goalie using the hybrid style with more athlethic ability is far better off for a weak defensive team like the Flames. For teams like the Blues, Kings, Ducks, etc, they likely won't rely on the goalie as much. So, the butterfly goalies look more stable.

The team seems to play better in front of him. I'd roll with him for now. That being said, the proof will not be whether he starts tonight, but if he starts Friday. The travel/back-to-back excuse would be acceptable, though I;d still go to Johnson again. If Elliott starts tonight I say regardless of outcome, Johnson should be in Friday. If Johnson starts tonight and wins, he starts Friday as well.

As a rule, I wouldn't start my goalies on back to back nights.
However, the Flames are desperate and should probably let it ride right now. Play Johnson until he loses.

Riding the hot hand literally got the Flames to the playoffs 2 years ago. I don't see why they shouldn't employ the same strategy this season. Elliott hasn't stepped up to clearly cement himself as the #1 guy and Johnson has shown in the past that he can handle a bigger workload than what you would expect from a typical backup goalie.
