If the Flames continue to stumble the next time they see this officiating crew they should sit Mony and Brodie and Bennett and Gio and dress farm team players, and when they're asked about it they should respond that they can't trust this officiating crew to protect their players from injury.

As much as I dislike other parts of Bennett's game right now (especially his choice of going 1v4 with concerning regularity), I liked him last night for this very reason. He was taking hacks at Suter in the 3rd. Blatant slashes which certainly drew the ire of the Wild fans.

Surgery? Man, when I broke my finger all I got was one of those crappy U-shaped pieces of steel that was held on with a velcro strap.

NSFW!

I really think everyone ought to tweet @NHLPlayerSafety (can't find their email if they have one) I mean a rule was clearly violated and a player is hurt as a result. Demand attention to it.

Doing nothing here on the NHL's part would encourage vigilante action next time the teams meet.

Let's be honest, if the Flames had a dangerous power play, teams would think twice about hacking Johnny.

Pretty damn certain Burke is going to fly to New York shortly and start flipping tables in Bettman and Walkom's offices. As well he should.

Brouwer's response to the questions about Gaudreau getting slashed probably killed our ability to get any legit attention on this issue.

"We all do that to the other team's star players. I do it to them too."

Agree.

If you aren't getting it done on the scoresheet, you've gotta find other ways to contribute and I think Bennett really showed he doesn't stand for that kind of #### the way some of the other players on the roster do.

You can probably file this under "cool story bro", but I'm heading to the Flames vs Bruins game in Boston on November 25 and was really looking forward to seeing Johnny play in-person for the first time.

I was nervous the Flames might lose every game between now and then, so I was pleasantly surprised when they beat the Wild last night...boy was that short lived

I do think it's a little insane that if you slash someone's stick and it breaks, it's an automatic penalty but you can freely break someone's fingers.

If officials called every infraction they saw without attempting to police the game every game would take three hours and the majority of scoring would probably be on the powerplay.

It seems weird that gloves wouldn't protect your fingers against a slash. I wonder how it got him. Wrists with the shorter gloves guys wear, I could see.

This.

Two ways to deter cheap shots. Either be skilled enough that the team doesn't want to go shorthanded against you, or be tough enough that the player doesn't want to get smoked for hitting your star players.

The Flames are neither.

Of course not but if he knew it would land him two minutes in the penalty box it sure might have.
Disagree.

I wouldn't be surprised if Boudreau didn't encourage whacks and slashes of Johnny, saying he's our only threat. Even if Staal got a penalty he would come back to the bench and get a nod of approval from the coach. It's naïve to think the refs can get this sort of thing handled.

The problem is the Flames are pussies and are known as such. You think this sort of thing happens as often to the Kings? Or Sharks? Or Ducks? I don't think so.
