You are right. Maybe we could get Evander Kane out of Buffalo for him. I can't think of any other disaster that the Flames could take on.
Alan Ladd have been pretty awful with the islanders ... but he always shows battle and compete.
Put it another way , it would be a lot easier to trade Wideman and much easier to trade Engelland or Stajan,
You try to come up with a trade partner that could take on Hamilton's 5.75 for this and another 4 years.

You've gone too far now. I was with you that Hamilton has been a disappointment but untradeable? So you're suggesting he goes unclaimed if put on waivers?
Unlike Wideman who definitely goes unclaimed. Probably Stajan too.

It will probably take longer because of how long the organization stubbornly tried to win now. We are paying the long-term price now for that short-term thinking.
You can also add in the inability to extract any quality assets from the last core that was in place: Kipper/Iginla/Regehr/Bouwmeester - the organization netted next to nothing from those guys.
So it is gonna take a while.

If this team ever gets into another sell mode I would much prefer they trade for young prospects rather than late 1st round draft picks. Brayden Schenn (was a rumoured return) would look better today than the return Iginla netted.

You're forgetting Agostino, Hanowski, Cundari - some serious quality prospects there.

If he had been on the table, when the Flames finally realized they needed to trade him, I have little doubt they would have taken that. Or maybe 12 didn't have Philly on his teeny tiny trade list

I wonder if Matt Murray would have been on the table. Not to go down a rabbit hole of impossible what if's, but this rebuild looks a lot different with a grade A young goalie back there.

Murray was the twelfth goalie picked in the late third round of the 2012 NHL entry draft. In his draft + one season he posted very pedestrian numbers for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. At the time, he was not remotely close to being a "grade A young goalie." If he ever was in the conversation, it was as a throw-in and not a centrepiece of the Iginla deal.

Plus, Murray would've overshadowed the acquisition of Reto "the OTHER best goalie not in the NHL" Berra.

Agostino and Hanowski were throw-ins. Wonder if he was one of the throw-ins discussed. Maybe not, since even with the facts you mentioned his pedigree was higher than those two.
But yeah, no point since the great Reto Berra was soon to be on his way.

both has looked great for the Canucks early in the season. their points don't do justice for their play.

You could make an argument for Granlund on intangibles and defensive responsibility. Though his overall play marks him for what he is: a third line centre. That trade saw Vancouver acquire a low risk, low ceiling player in exchange for a high risk, mid ceiling player. From the Flames perspective, we risked nothing. We may end up with nothing, but we won't end up worse off for it.
But unless Baertschi is scoring, he has little value to add. And Baertschi ain't scoring.

who would claim Hamilton off of waivers? really Come up with a team and how they would work him into their cap and what role he would be slotted for them?
If he can't be a top-4 d-man on the Flames (after they got ride of Russell) where would he be a top 4 guy?
same question as who would claim E. Kane Or Ladd.

Agostini and hanowaki were throw ins because they were prospects that had finished developing into AHLers.
Pittsburgh and st Louis were probably happy to be free of the contract spots.

Both were in college so don't think they were taking up any contract spots.
I miss good old hanowaki.

I hope we fire Treliving before he screws up the expansion draft and the cap space coming in this offseason. The team he's building is a figment of his imagination as all his signings reek the day he makes them and the players he inexplicably lets go outperform them at lower costs.

I'm more interested in the players he let go that are performing well for cheaper.
Paul Byron sure. We all know that.
Colborne? Nothing since the hat-trick
Hudler? Has barely played
Russel? Is the same guy in Edmonton that he was here
Jooris?
Who am I missing?
