Left after the 2nd, had better things to do. Were they boo'd off the ice? They should have been.
The fans need to start making their dissatisfaction heard.

And I don't really care about playoff success right now. You need regular season success to make the playoffs. Let's get that first, and then if we can become a perennial playoff team we can start worrying about playoff success.
|
I agree that regular season success must come first. I just disagree that building a team through high first round picks only is the method of getting that success. It just seems like people think high picks = regular season and playoff success and ignore the fact that winning teams have had a good mix of youth and veterans.

I'm more than certain they understand fans are dissatisfied.
What do you want to see? People booing their team or jerseys being thrown on the ice? Very Oileresq

Throwing jerseys would be Oilersesque. Booing most certainly is not. And this team deserves to be booed off the ice most nights.

First of all, including Montreal on that list is flat out wrong, and LA is a stretch (one top 5 pick, which almost every team - including the Flames - have).
Then there is the fact that Edmonton and Florida have been doing it for a decade without success and the only reason that you have Edmonton on here is that they lucked into McDavid.
And what about the tankers that haven't had success (along with Edmonton and Florida) like Colorado, Ottawa, Carolina, Winnipeg, Arizona, Columbus and the Islanders?
Then there are the teams that have had success without tanking: NYR, Boston, Detroit (until very recently), SJ and St Louis. And I would argue LA and Montreal as well.
You're blatantly cherry-picking teams that fit your narrative when, in fact, there is really no correlation between tanking and winning, nor is there only one way to build a successful franchise.
|
Not necessarily that you HAVE to tank, just that it might not be the worst thing in the world. Sure it's possible to build a good team without tanking, but drafting 1st or 2nd might not be the worst thing to do long term. It's just frustrating knowing how bad they've been and have 0 top 3 picks to show for it.

I completely agree with all of your posts on this subject.
It seems like about 28 of the last 30 cups have been won by teams win top 3 picks on them.
I think in terms of the cap, superstars at 9 million are most cost effective than elite players at 7 million.
The Flames have never won a lottery. There's not much they can do about that. Tanking would help a bit, but it still wouldn't be certain with the new lottery system.

Doing that would be 10x more shameful/embarrassing then anything the Flames have done on the ice this season.

That's not very constructive... maybe giving him Qui-Gon Jinn's little speech to Anakin prior to the podrace might?

The fact is teams with superstars win cups and its hard to acquire them without drafting first or second overall.
Since the lockout excluding goalies:
Kopitar
Karlsson
Benn
Giroux
On the other hand:
Crosby
Ovechkin
Kane
McDavid
Doughty
Toews (should have been 1st or 2nd but Blues went off the board)
Malkin
Stamkos
Tavares
The second group has a lot more success too, 12 cups to 2.
Top p/gp players drafted since lockout (over 50 gp):
1. Crosby 1.33
2. Malkin 1.18
3. Ovechkin 1.15
4. McDavid 1.10
5. Kane 1.01
6. Stamkos 0.99
7. Backstrom 0.98
8. Panarin 0.97
9. Tavares 0.92
10. Giroux 0.90
Have to get to 10th before someone not drafted first (or in Malkin's case 2nd) OA or a linemate.
