Being a cap team is irrelevant. Most teams are close to the cap. The team is full of bad contracts that mostly expire this summer.

Firing Hartley so quickly was a mistake. Bring in x and o assistant coaches, a better PP coach. Keep the guy that gives the team heart and drive, the never-say-die attitude. A key ingredient to a successful team, and Treliving/Burke threw it out the door for this rubbish.

I don't know where to even put this anymore, I guess its a rant.

But I refuse to believe that Monahan and JG have become terrible in the span of 8 months. I mean sure they missed training camp due to holdouts and injuries but still.

I refuse to believe that the Dougie Hamilton that ended last year suddenly forgot how to play the game and became absolute garbage. Or that Sam Bennett suddenly decided to regress to become a confuse tentative undisciplined player.

I could be dramatic and say, what the hell is going on here and moan to the stars about our fate.

But the fact of the matter is that after 16 games because we are going to lose and lose royally tonight from the looks of it that this team will be 5-10-1. For Christ sakes a wet dog with a note in its mouth could probably have a better record then the Flames this year. We're going to be in second last in the NHL after tonight.

This is stupid.

We somehow took a team that's creative on the rush and generated a ton of chances and passed creatively and made them into what looks like a 70's slow trappy team with attention defict problems.

At this point, I firmly believe that our head coach decided to implement his system despite the players he has instead of looking at the players and saying maybe this is the type of team that I have to mould.

So great, we have some lower line players having decent seasons, but at the end of the day, the heart of this team the so called pride of this rebuild looks confused, tentative slow and disinterested.

Last year we could blame goaltending and Bob, this year, we got better goaltending we got our players under good contracts, this should be a better team then last year. Instead we've got a red hot mess that's showing no signs of picking up the system and it seems no desire to play it.

Look at the end of the day its looking more and more like we're going to be a high lottery team and to me that's a problem, a rebuilding team shows progress not regression. A rebuilding team develops its young players, it doesn't leaving them look uncertain and slow and slightly stupid and lazy.

Are we at risk of losing our way? Are we at the risk of seeing a pile of rubble at the end of the season and ruining our rebuild?

Can we afford to keep this coach and hope for some or any sign of progress?

All I know is that as I said in another thread, I'm finding it hard to stay engaged in this mess. Its not amusing or fun to watch. They're not lovable losers with a good work ethic and a never say die attitude.

Instead they're like a lazy dog, the players and coaches are in this together mired in this tar pit made of equal parts of pathetic and apathy and confusion. At the end of the day maybe its time for me to take that dog behind the barn and put a bullet into my viewership of this team.

Or maybe I should just let myself get punched into a coma so I can wake up next year and this will be a whole Bobby Ewing who shot JR type of season that never happened.

Get your act together Flames, your not impressing anyone.

I'm sure if you look at a 15 game sample from either one of those years it would be worse or similar.

You just know this team will start playing like world beaters as soon as we have zero chance of coming back and all systems are out the window.

I think Gulutzan would have been a great assistant. But you need a guy like Hartley that has some emotion

This is exactly how the Oilers played under Eakins. Players unsure of what to do on the ice, atrocious defensive zone coverage, etc. Just give me a meat and potatoes NHL head coach. None of these thinkers.

As much as I have problems with Gulutzan, and right now I am just about ready to jump on the fire Gulutzan wagon, I am pretty sure our defensive system involves individuals making a damn stick check or breaking up a pass once in a while.

Dougie Hamilton is a sieve.

Even then though, the team at least worked hard. The Flames were notorious at the time as a team that worked tirelessly and never gave an "easy" win. Right now, they get walked over.

Yup. When you're always trying to outsmart everyone, you end up looking like an idiot.

D pairings finally start solidifying, then this.

Chiasson has been ass on the first line for the first 15 games, but lucky number 16 will work.

Just cannot do anything traditional

A meat and potatoes coach got us to last in goals against last year, try again.

The coach isn't helping but he's definitely not the only problem. He's one of many. Id like the GM who signed Grossman and traded for Chiasson to get some heat. Such an overrated GM and Darryl Sutter is starting to look better as a GM.

I'm ticked off too, but I'd say the darkest time (even darker than between 98-03) was from about 2010-2013 when this team was holding on to guys for too long had almost zero prospects, and it seemed NO one wanted to play here.

Even as it stands now, I'll still take this team over those teams.
