Wish Treliving would have thrown a pile of money at Darryl and got him to come home. This team is depressing to watch.

Last night was the first night that i saw Johnny play anywhere close to what he has been playing consistently for the past two years. I think it was obvious to me that he was given free reign to play his game.

Our other stars, Brodie, Gio and Monahan still appear to be hogtied by a system that doesn't work for them. I think no system would be better than what we presently have.

Also, we have a great group of potential prospects coming up, and right now I would be hesitant to subject them to the present coaching staff.

Please, please, do something about the coaching to allow the team to shine as they did under Hartley the year before last.

Right now, I'll take Laviolette, hell, I'll even take Ron Wilson, and I've hated Wilson as a coach.

I feel bad for Gulutzan and Cameron, I don't think anyone could have foreseen this level of suck.
On the contrary, I feel bad for the players, another year wasted! I hope they don't ruin Bennett or Tkachuk.

let's not say things we can't take back

If we are switching coaches, there is no benefit to switching to a bad coach.

Hit it out of the park or don't hit it at all.

Even if wideman isnt top 4 he needs to be in the lineup for pp. D needs a big shot. Too easy to defend against when no point shot threat

The problem is that Boudreau probably never had interest in the Flames.
In between the Hartley hiring and Boudreau accepting the Wild job he was asked if the Flames had contacted him and he said no. The fact is that Treliving wasn't interested for reasons that aren't clear to us whether it was a money thing or that he didn't like the fit. We will never know why but there is zero evidence to suggest Boudreau wasn't interested as he interviewed with Ottawa which has a crappy owner and mediocre team so I would imagine he would have talked had the Flames called him.

That's a possibility as we know Treliving likes Huska.

Barring an 8 or 9 game winning streak, I think the most frustrating part of continuing with this deadbeat coaching staff is that we will go through the same exercise again at the beginning of next year. I, like a number of fans would rather the coaching staff of the future have the rest of the season to get ready for next year. The reality is that this "coaching staff of the future" (the next Joel Q if you will) does not exist as they are currently employed in the NHL. This means that Brad's poor decision in the off-season will likely cost us two years...

Wasn't there talk that they weren't interested in Boudreau because he was considered a veterans' coach and they wanted someone to work with, and develop, the young guys?

Why blame the coach. Do you think the special teams represent how they are being told to play?
Why bother having a coach at all if he's absolved of any failings?

Treliving would have let Hartley finished his contract if he thought the way you do.

Not only that, if GG is using a system that either is not suited to the talent of the players on the ice or is too sophisticated or exacting for the players to pick up and use, I fear that the players we are trying to develop in our rebuild will instead regress. I already see that with Brodie.

I think you have to take what he said to the media with a grain of salt. He would never outright just say that the Flames contacted him and he wasn't interested. That would be pretty classless.

Boudreau has personal connections to Ontario and Minnesota and that is likely why he considered both of them. Maybe the Flames contacted him and maybe they didn't... we will likely never know. I can think of a few reasons why a coach might pick Ottawa or Minnesota over the Flames though and if he had them on his list over the Flames, why would he waste his time talking to anyone else?

It does seem like, given the timing of the Hartley firing and the timelines that Boudreau and Yeo were both fired and hired, that the Flames might have had interest in both of them before Gulutzan.
  • Boudreau was fired by Anaheim on April 29th.
  • Hartley was fired by the Flames on May 3rd.
  • Boudreau was hired by Minnesota on May 7th.
  • Yeo was hired by St. Louis on June 13th (the Flames are rumoured to have interviewed him)
  • Flames hired Gulutzan on June 17th.

It's all just speculation of course, but if I were betting, I would bet that Treliving lost out on both his plan A and plan B.

Not at all. I'm being less binary in my thinking about it.
The idea that special teams is all on the coach baffles me.
So when we talk about dismissing everyone responsible for the special teams, I'm surprised that doesn't also refer to the players.

But switch to a bad coach from a worst is an improvement though, right? I just want the current coaching staff gone

It also includes the players, but when virtually every single one of the core or skill players is taking a substantial step backwards this season, there is something else involved.

That's exactly what I fear too especially we have several talented young players needed development

There are too many rungs on the management pride ladder. Glue Gun too proud to admit Cameron was a bad hire and do the right thing. Treliving won't admit fault with Glue Gun and do the right thing. Burke won't admit fault on Treliving and do the right thing. Treliving made some good moves early on but since then the media has to get off this love-in and start questioning his decision-making. Starting with Blowing $1million of cap space on an 8th defenceman you didn't need and now plays in Stockton, Coach hiring, Raymond, Setoguchi etc, one of the highest paid D corps in the NHL, no adequate RW for top line. Instead the media drinks the koolaid especially on 960. Drink up and listen to us spin the mess we made.
