Because contact with the ball negates any contact to the kicker. Look at the rules. Just because the NFL office waffles to appease Bills fan and Rex, it doesn't change the rule as written.

The thing is that it's still week 9. If we look back thru the league the past several seasons, I suspect the team playoff picture in week 9 is always different from the one at the end of the season.
Dallas does look to have a good team, but they also did in 2007, and the Giants went into their house and won the game that counted. They're also the one blemish on the Cowboys record this year. At this point who remembers the 15-1 Packer team who were defending Superbowl Champions. The team that won was a 8-6 won it's final two games to get into the playoffs. I think the NFC is lending itself to something like that this year.
In the Giants, the logical side of me see's a team that seems to have the pieces in place to be capable of a spurt of really good games. Not that different than the two years where they won the Superbowl. Both those teams squeeked into the playoffs but managed to play really good for 4 games. Similar to this years edition they had the parts but couldn't seem to get it together for long stretches.
Over in the AFC, Pittsburgh if healthy is capable of making a run. The issue they have is that I don't know if they have all the pieces on defence to get hot enough to win 3-4 games in a row. Mind you they might only need the defence to help them beat New England. They certainly can run with Oakland in a track meet, and Denver doesn't have the horses on offence to force the Steelers defence to win a game. Cincinatti was a pre season darling and they should be dead and buried by now...but they're not. So I wonder if they can make a second half run.

The biggest problem for NYG is the inconsistent play of Manning. He just constantly makes too many mistakes. Even when he is having a good game he can't help but throw interceptions as well.
Pittsburgh defence is weak but with a healthy offence they can easily put up 35-40 points against any team in the NFL.

Unescessary roughness is a after whistle play. Ref didn't blow whistle until it was too late, thus no unescessary roughness.

So what stands out 9 games in?
It's New England and then everyone else.
Dallas looks like the best team in the NFC, but I don't trust them. Yet.
Oakland is a top tier team in the AFC, but I don't think that's a surprise really.

Which is at the discretion of the on-field officials, who deemed it wasn't a penalty. Not the right call, but the call they made.
If I was Rex, I would have been a lot more upset at the delay of game call, that was the result of the official standing over the ball until there was 4 seconds on the clock.
The whole series, the officials seemed to have no idea what was going on.

At least I won't have to watch another Browns game this year. Thursday night football by design is going to be bad because every team is featured, and there's only about 14 teams that people might tolerate watching.

The refs blew the whistle dead for the offsides, how else are they supposed to stop Sherman? hit him?
Carpenter being hit is 100% Sherman's fault. The following lack of penalties and proper field position change is 100% the refs fault
