“The law is no protection. Governments make laws, but whether they are carried out, and how the police behave, depends on the general temper in the country. If large numbers of people are interested in freedom of speech, there will be freedom of speech, even if the law forbids it; if public opinion is sluggish, inconvenient minorities will be persecuted, even if laws exist to protect them.” - Orwell
What kind of temper does Trump bring to the country?
Oh, one other thing I forgot to mention that I thought of earlier, and then I really have to go to sleep.
The man has the nuclear codes, but remember he also has access to the drone program. Which arguably is worse since it's probably a lot easier to justify use.
Sweet dreams.

What an amazing night. Republicans win the white house, the Senate, House, and make the next SCOTUS pick. Maybe murdering Scalia wasn't such a wise move.
So proud of Americans for giving the establishment, mainstream media, and pop culture the ultimate middle finger.
Trump will likely not be that strong a President, but avoiding Hillary makes this all worth it.
Time to drain the swamp!

It's not draining the swamp when virtually the entire House/Senate is full of establishment GOP types. It's not draining the swamp when the actual VP pick is an establishment GOP type.
Draining the swamp would be voting out all of those GOP/Democrats and voting in third party candidates for the House and Senate.
You kept the swamp just as dank and disgusting as it always was, you just made it easier to light the whole thing aflame.

It'll be interesting to see how the Republicans handle the economic shake up when solar energy becomes viable, because it's already cheaper than the grid in some places and is getting cheaper by the day and when automation becomes viable like with self driving vehicles. So much for the trucking and taxi industries and all the assorted related industries.
If the economy goes in the tank (which is likely after seeing how the dow is and how England is after Brexit) then it will be all dumped squarely on the Republicans lap because everything was sunshine and roses under Obama with unemployment under 5%, the Dow over 18000 and 70+ consecutive months of private sector job growth.

I'd imagine they'll let the utilities handle that who will install it whenever or if ever it makes sense. Rather than push it unnecessarily early, resulting in high electricity prices for everyone except the more well-to-do who can take advantage of inefficient roof-top solar subsidies like net-metering.

Given the painfully slow progress in this field, I doubt this will even show up even if Trump get's a second term. Google can hype their car but when you actually read their reports, you find their self-driving capability remains significantly worse than a human.

The FTSE100 is considerably up vs just before Brexit. Though the benefits of (juiced by central banks) high financial markets and growing economy (juiced by central banks) that hasn't actually hit many of his voters is a major reason they voted for him.

The FTSE100 is mostly made up of larger multi nationals who massively benefited from the 20% drop in the pound, the FTSE200 which is more representative of the U.K. Economy has taken an absolute kicking.

That's a great point, and purging things completely was never going to happen overnight. It still likely won't happen in four years completely.
But starting at the top has to bring more hope in that regard, than 4 years of Hillary who would have taken things even further in the opposite direction, as she's proven to be one of the most corrupt candidates ever.
The swamp isn't drained yet, but tonight helps. Thankful that Americans woke up to the horrorshow that is Hillary Clinton.

A friend in LA just sent me a video of people (I think mostly students) marching down the streets chanting "#### Donald Trump!"
It's tenuous in here, not sure how'd it feel right now as an American fully invested in the events.

Time to rewind the clocks back to 1920's. I wonder how many backwards laws will come into play now with Republicans in full control.
I think the biggest impact on Canada will be if/when Trump pulls out of Paris and guts US climate change plans. At that point, Trudeau and the premiers would have to take a hard look at whether or not they want to make Canada incredibly uncompetitive by keeping on their current path.

You know who Donald Trump is right? He is a pop culture celebrity.
