Well, let me put it like this. I read this guys opinions and commentary for... years. Years!

I often read a lot of people criticize, attack, mock, make fun of, tease, etc. Peter12. And he almost always was jovial, laughed with people, got along with people and genuinely seemed to love debates.

I don't recall many times where he insulted people, if ever. Would it surprise me if he was so offensive to be banned? Yes, absolutely. Was a mod insulted? Possibly, does that mean he should have been banned? No, I don't think so. So I'm just curious that, in light of the fact that he was actually correct in his opinions about this election and as revealed by tonight... is it fair to unban him?

This site is better with Peter around and I suspect that if he knew he would have insulted a mod to the degree it appears he did, knowing him (and I actually do know him but don't know what he was banned for), he would absolutely apologize.

Having stepped away from this schmozzle for a couple of hours, I found my sense of humour engaged in a mighty war with my disgust that a person like Trump could win.

I had hoped to come back to some miraculous news but all I get is news that Peter12 has been deposed.

Not quite what I was hoping for.

That's up to you, there's lots of places to have discussions on the Internet and they're all different, sometimes one is a better fit than another.

Sure. If someone contacts us and shows that they understand what it is that was problematic and makes a concerted effort to modify their behaviour then we'll often give them additional chances. Some posters get suspended periodically because they periodically start going too far, but we don't permaban them because they make a net positive contribution.

Some people re-register and if we don't notice it (maybe because the negative behaviour has changed) then find out a long time after, we often don't do anything about it either (since the actual goal is to modify behaviour, not to hold a grudge).
