I wish he had produced results on the ice during this radio interview, rather than just talking.

Thanks getbak...I am going by memory, which is not as good as it used to be.
I do remember a lot of promise and talk about success. Of course, there was no success as the Flames did not make the playoffs during his three years as coach.

Picking up what he's preaching doesn't necessarily equal "taking credit for how Benn turned out"
Just because your jumping to that doesn't mean it's what he's saying at all.

No but the team was 90 points or better every season under him with a pretty flawed roster and they never played as bad as the team under Hartley or Gulutzan. If you never actually saw the records and went off CP's revisionist history you would think Brent's time here was the low point of the franchise's history but it's actually three of the more consistent seasons the team has put together in their history. They simply were never able to win the big games in March.

And yet Keenan got a similar roster to the post-season twice in two seasons.
No doubt that Brent Sutter had the wrong roster for his coaching style, but good coaches adapt. Keenan put that Iron Mike persona away.

Keenan got Iginla and Kipper in more prime years and had a better roster although the roster in Sutter's first season looked good until Darryl went mad and made the Phaneuf trade which started a downturn in overall talent. Those teams under Brent really weren't great rosters but he got them to winning records every season. If Iginla would have bought in things could have been different but it was not to be.

That's some revisionist history EE. Brent had a solid roster.

When Tangs and Jokinen are your 2nd and 3rd best scoring forwards you don't have a solid roster. Take a good look man those were not nearly as good of rosters as Keenan had.

Your memory is flawed. Kipper mostly sucked (relatively speaking) under Keenan.

Seems like he doth protest too much about reading the media etc., tells me he is probably checking out his feedback.
I think he needs to make max 4 or 5 of those comments and keep the rest in the room. Those bullet points are more than what Darryl gave the media all season.

Kind of reminds me of a guy in the corporate world who has an MBA and a pocket full of platitudes who Peter Principle'd himself into a job above his head.

Nope they lost 9 in a row and traded Phaneuf for scraps in January.
You've chosen the revisionist route. 'Member when they lost 9-0 to Boston with Bouw/Butler manning the top pairing duties?
None of those teams were playoff teams, with Kiprusoff.

Yep and he still managed to coach a team with that top pairing to a 90 point season. He almost made chicken salad out of chicken ####.

They are still separate seasons though. Brent had Phaneuf, Regehr, Bouwmeester, Giordano as his top 4. In their primes no less. And Kipper.
He was the consummate underachiever coach. Inherited a playoff team when he started coaching. At least Gulutzan has that point in his favor.

Meh, he tried to make Shepherds Pie out of a group of turkeys. That's not shepherd pie, that's a cottage pie. He tried to coach them like it was a group of lambs. Brent may be a good coach, but he wasn't a good coach for the group of guys that we had at that time. Consistently missing the PO's should not be used as a model to learn from.

I believe in the Jays.

That's some kinda revisionist history on Butters tenure. Butter coached like he had the team that he wanted to have rather then the one that he did.
