Does that matter? He is signed as of right now to play in Canada for the next 2 years. I would not trade Hamilton for him, but i would gladly trade Gio for him. Even after 2 years if he still does not want to play in Canada you can trade him. Really think flames need to get out of Gio's contract as soon as possible. That said, can't see the Jets wanting to do that trade.

Anyone else get TheScore alert that says Trouba rescinded his Trade Request?

Thats all he wanted? $3M?

Probably the more accurate thing to say is that he publicly rescinded his trade request. Not something you want to answer to or speak to on a daily basis.

Trouba does not want to get traded from Winnipeg anymore.

Quote:
"I've committed to signing here for two years," Trouba said. "When I signed that piece of paper, everything changes in my mind. I'm now part of this team and whatever I'm asked to do for these next two years while I'm under contract is what I'm going to do.

"I want to play hockey. I'm a hockey player and I'm extremely happy to be back in the locker room and playing hockey. That's what I love to do. I think that's what every hockey dreams of, is playing in the NHL and I have the opportunity to do that."
Will be interesting how he plays with a shorter timeline for carrot/stick rather than the 3 Flame RFA's that have 4-5 years to get their games into shape before facing any consequences.

Where does he say he's rescinded a trade request? And that he wants to stay in Arizona for the 2 years?

I must be out of touch, I figured Trouba for more than a $3M defenceman, were they seriously lowballing the hell out of him before because $3M doesnt seem like a problem to me.

You've got to be kidding yourself if you think Trouba will be a jet long term. He will be traded before this contract expires. Book it.

Trouba camp likely took less on a short term deal to help facilitate a trade to his desired location.

Much harder to move 5.5 million than 3 million.

He knows that he can't go back into that locker room and say publicly "I still want to be traded, I don't want to be here, I just wanted to play so that I can be traded"

I would take any PR that comes out with a grain of salt.

He didn't cave on term and $$$, just to rescind his trade request and play at a cheaper amount for the next two seasons.

Trouba got paid what owners and NHLPA negotiated with the lockout in 2015 agreed that a non generation player should sign for after his ELC expires.

There should be 1-2 generational players coming off their ELCs every year.

Trouba is not one.

McDavid, Ekblad, Matthews, Laine, McKinnon, Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Doughty, Stamkos, Tavares, Kane, Toews ... guys who there was never a doubt that they would be in the NHL as soon as legally possible. Players would barring severe injuries would be flirting with the league max in their first UFA year.

The trouble is that the Kevin Lowe school of GM sets the standard for generational players way too low. Somehow good players got classified as great players by panicked GMs.

The Oilers had 3 or 4 . The Flames have 3!!!

Demands trade, holds out for the first month of the season, I'm sure the boys are going to welcome him back with open arms. Little brat's like him really grind my gears.

So do you think that Gaudreau's problems stem from him ruining the locker room with his holdout?

The presupposition was " demanding a trade...holding out for the first month of the season"

In which way does Gaudreaus situation and conclusion remotely correlate to Trouba ?

Once again asking an illogical question which is based on zero facts.

"Ruining the locker room"....unadulterated trolling.

Droiun wanted out of Tampa too and it looked pretty ugly. Still in Tampa and seems happy.

Will Trouba be traded? Maybe. I doubt it. Chevy isn't going to get fair value for him and he's going to keep him in Winnipeg until he does or until he can't get Trouba under contract anymore.

There aren't 1-2 generational players coming off their ELC every year. There's only about 3 even playing in the NHL right now in Crosby, Ovechkin and McDavid. How can there be much more than one or two every ten years? What is a generation in the NHL? 6 months?

Oh, he'll get traded. He'll play out this season and then they'll trade him either in the off-season or at next season's trade deadline, or maybe they just wont protect him.

This is the most likely scenario.

Honestly, one way or the other unless something drastically changes, if I'm Winnipeg's GM Trouba has just shown himself to be a pain in my ass and more trouble than hes worth.

Unless he calms down and becomes more valuable I'd take the first opportunity to ship him out of town the second I feel I'd get fair value.

I guess "generational" now means in gopher years.
