This is why we need mandatory vaccines.

Except that vaccines, seat belts, and helmets have proven public health benefits, your examples are incredibly off the mark.

You could have just rolled with the joke and had a laugh at the expense of anti-vaxxers.

Uggh, mandatory vaccinations would be closer to the anti-smoking laws put in place a couple years ago, not eugenics. That's such a fallacy. Heck, it's closer to child endangerment laws than forced castration.
The reason why we can no longer smoke in restaurants isn't so much to protect smokers from themselves, but project other people from smokers. A non-smoker going into a restaurant or other 'public' place shouldn't be subject to carcinogens. The very same way that the public should be able to go about their day and not be subjected to diseases that should have been wiped out or otherwise low-risk non-factors. Instead, for the people who legitimately can't be vaccinated or the small percentage of people who's vaccine didn't work, they are now at risk because of these idiots. It's not about their rights, it's about everyone else's rights. And again, we are mostly talking about children who did not make the choice. They are essentially being put at risk and punished because of their idiot parents.
Their parents are no better then the ####tards who gave their children heroine to calm them down:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-n...heroin-9178457
"Government control over what goes into/what we do with our bodies is a historically horrible thing." I'm sure you take issue with the parents in the above story, so where do you want to draw the line? Child endangerment seems like a real good starting place.

Are you guys ####ing kidding me? Mandatory vaccines? I'm all for "mandatory vaccines" to enroll your kids in public education and eliminating them from public spaces forcing people to put something in their bodies under the threat of penalty is horrifying. Jesus Christ people.
While we're at it, let's just sterilize anyone who carries genetic diseases.

No not at all. It's absolutely ######ed that they aren't mandatory today. We know the society benefits. It greatly outweighs any medically proven negative. And again, it's not about a single person's rights. It's about the people who can't receive a vaccine. It's about a child who can't make the choice.

To me this is the weirder stance. So we have an idiot parent not give their child vaccines, which could be potentially life-saving but that's besides the point, and now you want to further punish the child by not giving him or her an education? The child who probably needs the education most is the one you want to prevent getting educated? And on top of that you want to essentially imprison them keeping them from public space?
Here's an idea, just give them a shot and be done with it. We have science and medicine backing us up, if you don't vaccinate your kid, you're increasing their odds of getting debilitating diseases. This is fact. It's child endangerment at it's core to not give them a vaccine. We have laws in place that do protect children when they are endangered, it's about time we put in this one.
The only reason this is a debate is because some pornstar was tricked by a now completely debunked medical paper. It's asinine that we have to have this debate, but because we are, we should do what's best for society.

I know, after all, it's child endangerment if we allow certain people to have children!

When I first moved to Alberta, one of the first news stories that I noticed was the issue involving forced sterilization of mental patients in Alberta. The government and the people of Alberta rightfully realized that this practice was horrific and a basic violation of human dignity and the human body. This is not a practice that should ever be taken lightly, and should never be forced on someone. Ever. For me, this is a red line that a government should not cross, no matter now "in the right" they may be.
There were a lot of good, honest, and sincere reasons to sterilize mental patients back in the day. That does not make it any less of a crime.

Sterilizing has a negative outcome, vaccination does not. Unless you count your arm hurting as a major negative.

It's the use of force that I cannot stand. I can understand the arguments - I am pro vax. I think I have more vaccinations than most people, even some really weird ones from some of the trips I have taken. But there were a lot of people making claims about the "positive" outcomes of sterilization, too. In the end, I do not want any well meaning governmental official to have the power to "fix" me according to their wishes, not mine.

Does it? If we sterilized everyone with sickle cell anemia we'd probably be rid of it in couple of generations. Isn't that a public good?

Comparing vaccinations to forced sterilizations.
And I thought the craziest part of today was going to be the election.
