I know. But you had Nakladal and Schlemko staring at you in the face.

Not only that, but Grossman could not play hockey. He is seriously horrible. How does he get an effing contract and see ice time? Brutal, IMO.

I'd rather have Kulak over Nak/Schlemko so that's not a huge black mark for Treliving IMO. You can also thank Johnny for handcuffing Brad if you want to blame him for Nak walking.

Schlemko signed a 4 year deal at a $2.1 million per cap hit.. The great Nakladal has barely played. Some posters are acting like Grossman was in for every game. He played 3. 2 were brutal and 1 was okay. IMO he didn't cost the flames any points in the 2 losses. They would have lost both those games anyway.

Yeah, I'm not sold on Nakladal being much, but Schlemko looked great here and looks great on the Sharks. Definitely more than a 7th guy and they probably could have kept him for a song. That was a mistake.

Bottom pairing D don't mean a lot... unless your top pairing D suddenly play like garbage.

This is a black mark on Treliving's tenure as far as I am concerned.

Comments like this just go to show how clueless some posters are. The only reason Grossmann was signed is because he was willing to sign for a very specific dollar amount which in turn gave the Flames the maximum relief possible from Smid being out on LTIR.

I won't defend Gulutzan for playing Grossmann though. This is on him and not BT.

Schlemko already stated he wasn't going to sign here with the logjam we had on D. He also said the Flames tried to move a d-man to fit him in but couldn't do it.

Let it go already.

I honestly think they needed to find a person to take the exact salary that he agreed to in order to maximize the benefit of LTIR.

With his contact below that threshold (750k?) they can now send him to the farm without any cap impact.

If that's a dark mark then I think we need to cut a wider swath as it doesn't really impact the team.

Who's call to actually play him is the next thing. Did Treliving force that on Gulutzan or did Gulutzan want some more beef on the backend? He's here so why not try him?

I know he's a good man, and great in the room, so there's that too.

Hopefully this was always a discussed possibility and he's fully aware of the fact that this could happen.

I'm clueless because I didn't think Grossman deserved even the league min? Guess what? The GM agrees with me because he just waived him.

I'm arguing that the GM made a mistake signing him in the first place. The GM has now realized his mistake and cut him.

Let's move on to discussing Byron's departure.

Next season Grossman will sign with the Kings and score 2 goals against the Flames en route to a 5-0 drubbing.

Which all happened last year. It's really time to let it go.

Last season, he was signed for a cheap one-year deal just before the start of Training Camp. This year, he signed a four-year, $2.1 million contract on July 1.

Finally...now that Grossman is gone, PP will be amazing, PK will stop teams, Bennett will stop taking dumb penalties, Brodie will start making smart plays, Gaudreau will start to pass the puck, Monahan will get his scoring ability back, Elliott/Johnson will make timely saves, Giordano will hit the net with his shot...lets all rejoice!
