I guess running on an incline greater than 2% on a treadmill is bad. Ankle and knee stress. Kind of makes sense I guess.

You talking about a true form runner? I saw them at the Vivo centre in the NW, looks interesting.

My apologies if this has been answered in this thread already, but what are people's thoughts on BCAA's? I've been using it regularly for the past several months, and I'm not really sure I notice any difference in faster recovery times.

But what I have noticed is that I have not been sick since February. When I first joined the gym, I think I got sick 3 times in like 4 months. Gyms are like germ factories. So if anything, I think the BCAA's are helping boost my immune system, which is mostly why I've continued to take them.

We've talked about this, but many members, including myself, thing that supplements like this are not necessary if you have a decent diet. Foods like chicken, eggs, and dairy are all very high in BCAAs.

That being said, BCAAs are proven to have benefits, including boosting the immune system. BCAAs and creatine are a few of the supplements that have actually been scientifically proven to work. My position is that you should get adequate BCAAs from your diet and all supplements carry some health risks.

I take BCAA's every day. My diet isn't all that great (some days I don't eat until 1PM) so the morning BCAA drink and protein shake gets me through.

https://examine.com/supplements/Bran...n+Amino+Acids/

I read somewhere you should time when you take them (something to do with insulin spike) but I don't know exactly. I usually take them 10 minutes before a workout with a protein shake.

Any suggestions for a good mass building workouts?

I got good results strength wise when I did a 5x5 last time I worked out seriously but I actually lost weight. Every 5x5 for mass I find on the web seems super short, just three workouts.... Not really appealing.

Why do you want "mass"?

Eat more. You won't gain f-all if you don't eat properly.

Yup, the ol' eat until I'm sick routine. I know I gotta stick with it.

Hopefully it's easier now that I'm buying groceries and planning my meals for myself and not living at home.

I personally think the concept of "putting on mass" is super stupid unless you're clinically underweight or malnourished. Just eat well and exercise with incremental increases in intensity/weight/reps/whatever and you'll look good as a result.

Mark Rippetoe basically recommends taking whatever you are eating and then drinking a gallon of milk through the day. Combine that with a 5x5 and you'll put on mass.

The fact of the matter is that if you're not gaining mass, you aren't eating enough. It's that simple. I used to to struggle to gain mass too. I found the trick was to eat 5 meals a day (real meals, a protein shake doesn't count). I would eat a tuna melt right before bed. Did that for 3 months straight and put on 20 lbs, despite being stuck at a plateau for years.

That's not true for everyone. Some people have a really tough time breaking through those initial barriers. Others plateau at a certain weight.

I should clarify, my body type is more like what Polak is describing (i.e. I find it hard to put on weight as well) but I think it's more important to just do the best you can with what you have. I did a bunch of competitive Spartan races this summer/fall and it really opens your eyes to the body types and how they can all have success when training appropriately. "Strong" is such a relative concept in my opinion.

If you were as skinny as me I think you'd be singing a different tune. Not saying you're wrong but I definitely need to gain at least 10-15 pounds.
