I doubt the holdout had much of an effect. My guess is that he's trying to come to terms with the pressure of being an established star player while his linemates are doing little to help him.

The way Tkachuk plays, he's going to have to answer the call at times. Good to see that he's already ready to it.

The same way Buffalo is. The same way Toronto is. The same way Columbus is. The same way that all teams but 8 have less than $3MM of cap space...

The cap argument has nothing to do with where they're at in their re build.

would anyone bet against the likelihood of the flames coming out completely flat in the 3rd?

Leading in pucks aimlessly thrown at the net for sure.. The ducks are skating circles around the flames most of the time toying with them

Really simple answer.

To be even competitive over the last 3 years, they have needed to sign UFAs / trade and keep Stajan, Engelland , Wideman . Frolic, and Brouwer etc at high prices.

Next season it will be much different as they shed the first three salaries I mentioned.

Lastly, the newly signed top players need to accelerate their progression and they have to continue to draft and develop.

I guess I see it different. I see a player that turned around on that last slash and his momentum took him past the net after the goal was scored.

Look it's fine, I tend to be a glass is half full guy. You're a half empty guy.

Ya but once Wideman comes off the books this is basically Tre's team you would expect a cap team of all signings for one manager (Stajan was burkes) to be a playoff team. So next year no excuses.

Ashasx - Oh, the Ducks will score on this PP and the Flames will try but not win. Same pattern every game here in this hellhole of a rink.

Still, it's a Flames game, so you gotta know your audience and not sent out a generic package nationwide. Another example of why Sportsnet sucks, they don't care about the fans, only saving $$$ by re-using segments.

I wouldn't say that the rebuild is over by any means but with 2/3 of the first line established and a defense that looks strong on paper, you have to expect some progress now.

Flames are in this game. Just need to cut down on mistakes and penalties.

Gaudreau isn't Gaudreau, Monahan isn't Monahan, Brodie isn't Brodie, and Giordano is playing half as intelligent. What do you expect to happen when that's the case?

I don't think that a definitive statement can be made because all of the top players have played better than they are currently, but yeah this year they've looked like a team of grinders with minimal hockey sense trying not to make mistakes rather than a speedy, skilled team with one of the top first pairings and two elite forwards on their top line.

LOL clearly you have no idea about my view on the Flames. I'm usually telling people to calm down.

Simple fact is I think Gaudreau could have been better on that play. He could have positioned himself better on the second attempt but he let up and it cost him. It's the little things like that which are the difference between the team winning and losing right now.

I'm tired of hearing about shots. Not all shots are equal.

All I care about are scoring chances. Who is winning the scoring chances.
