PSA: Pylon gets great deals on tires, and is awesome to deal with. I highly recommend talking to him if you're looking for tires.

Pylon, talk to me about winter tires. I need 'em. For a 2016 Volvo V60.

On cars, I've always been a huge Pirelli fan. I've run snow sports in the past, with excellent results. They were our off the shelf, bulk buy tire for years. This year we switched to the Pirelli ice zero FR. not a ton of traction feed back yet as the snow hasn't really hit, but everyone seems to be very impressed with how quiet they are. Also you will find most euro car dealers go the Pirelli route. They are a great balance of performance/traction, for the type of dryish winters we get. Pirelli is the goto to euro cars, kinda what Toyo/Yokohama is to the Japanese crowd.
Nokian, and Gislaved take it to the extreme, more designed for heavy, deep, unplowed snow. But man are they awesome. Like glue on ice and snow. You'd think you were on dry pavement. The price for that ridiculous traction is fast wear, and road noise. Also, $$$$$$. But for the hardcore guys, Hakkapiletta's are the only way to go.
At the end of the day, snow tires are the single most opinionated car accessory. Everyone thinks they have the best one. Once you switch from any all season tire, to any snow tire, anything seems amazing. The compounds are that good now. The only 'meh' companies seem to be Firestone, Goodyear, and BFG. They just don't seem to have the same cache, or selection with winter stuff. Blizzaks IMO have been riding their name too long, they are almost like what Kleenex is to nasal tissue.
Going off the board can get you some pretty decent stuff too. Cooper, and General make some awesome snow tires. But the best snow tires I ever had personally, were the Gislaved Nordfrost 100's I bought for next to nothing for my Tiguan. Those things were like frikkin glue. Like shockingly good on ice. Black magic sorcery good. And until I bought them, on an blowout deal our parts manager got, I'd never heard of them. But they are apparently hugely popular in the Nordic countries.
Anyway. Shoot me a PM with the size. And if you want rims or not, and I'll put together a quote.

not a direct snow tire issue or question - but a general grumble.....I swapped out my summer tires/rims over the weekend for the winter ones. Yesterday morning I dropped my vehicle off at my regular shop asking for an Oil Change and a reset of the TPMS as I swapped tires. they said since the warning light was not on, they could not reset the system. On the way home from the shop last night I get a tire pressesure fault message, so back to the shop again today.
I hope this is a simple reset and that it does not need new sensors or something.
Twice every year I tell myself I am going to buy a reset tool as last I saw they were about $80 on ebay/amazon

Hmmmm... this "PM Pylon" method of buying tires is of interest to me. I need a new set of summers for 2017 for my SUV, probably a new set of winters for next winter (I think this may be my last year on these Blizzaks, as they're 6-7 years old now) and two rear tires for the 370z. That's a decent amount of rubber.

Thanks for all the inquiries guys. I just dumped about 10 quotes on my parts managers desk, and he will be getting you all quotes in the next couple hours. Typically the quotes come in a little above 1010 or Tire Rack, but once the freight is factored, it ends up cheaper. In most instances, we can have them here in 3-5 hours if you are looking for loose/cash and carry. And we are booking about a week out for install. Tis the season.
If you want a quote I need to know a couple things.
1) Size on the car now. A lot of cars have 3 or 4 wheel sizes on the same model.
2) Do you want winter rims?
3) If you want winter rims, do you want steel or alloy?

Gents and gals:
I am sorry if I've been a little slow on tire quotes the last few days. I will get caught up on them in the next week. I've been tied up in meetings the better part of the week, as there will be a change at our dealership in the coming weeks. One that I hope will greatly benefit the members at Calpuck. Stay tuned. There will be even better deals coming for all of you.

I'm not pylon but I buy new winters every year for 2-3 vehicles so I have tried many many tires. For a performance winter your grabbing a really good tire imo. Lots of siping so they perform decent on ice and they don't get squirmy on dry pavement. I found they did great in everything but deep snow but that's expected from a performance winter. Personally I think you will be more than happy.

Appreciate the info Diemenz. Just had them installed yesterday, certainly quieter and softer feeling than my summer performance runflats.

Having 2 sets of wheels with tires mounted make it far easier and practical when doing seasonal swaps (no need to mount and balance each time). Many people just opt for steel wheels to mount their winter tires as they are inexpensive. You can also get a set of alloys reasonably cheap or expensive if you want.

Canadian Tire has Goodyear Nordic's on sale, buy three get one free. Got a set for my wife's new Hyundai and it came out to $350 less than the cheapest decent set on 1010tires.com.
As a tire I'd say they're only slightly above average but they do the job, better than the other bargain tires like the Hankook iPike. I've had a few sets over the years.

Popped on the winters on both cars this weekend, nice to be doing so in shirt sleeves. And I have now ensured no snow for a couple more weeks.
This will be the third winter on the Pirelli Sottozeros on the Audi and I have zero complaints. Grippy, not too bad for noise, wear has been decent. Unlike Diemenz, I find they do squirm a bit worse than my summers on dry pavement.
Run Michelin X-Ice on the FWD Kia and it has no problems either, with the caveat that we drive it a lot less on the highway. I used to really like Blizzaks, but I am leaning towards both the Pirelli and the Michelin being better on ice.

After a lot of research and other stuff I finally got my winters on. I actually bought them a month ago but wanted to wait a bit, plus they were back ordered.
I ended up going with the michelin xice xi3 with alloy wheels, not steelies. I went from 19" on my summer tires to 17" wheels for my winters. Glad I didn't go smaller. I got a really good price from Kal Tire on Edm Tr for the whole package. There were a few hickups (like the tires I wanted being back ordered) but they were really good about everything. +1 would recommend.
sorry pylon, you weren't on cp at the time and didn't know you did tires too. Thanks to CP for all the help though. Made it a lot easier.
