No real thoughts, except that my wife had to drag me out of a Good Life years ago. She wanted to cancel and they were making it next to impossible. I had a complete meltdown: Yelling, pounding on the counter, etc.
Quite a scene.
Not one of my proudest moments.
TLDR - I don't like GoodLife. Make sure you understand the billing practices before you sign.

No matter which gym you choose make sure you understand the contract terms (billing) and how easy it is to cancel. If/when you do cancel make sure you get it in writing as of the cancellation date (when the payments should stop). If they keep charging you after that date your bank can help you if its in writing and possibly recover some of the money. But if its just verbal they can't usually help you. The bank teller said Golds Gym is notorious for billing after someone has cancelled their membership and it seems like it's common for gyms in general

If you're looking for a cheap rate you might want to try searching on kijiji for someone wanting to transfer their membership. Depending on when they signed up their rate might be cheaper. There will be lots of people looking to unload their gym memberships 2-3 months after the new years rush

I loath fitness places that require you to sign contracts.

I've been a member at that location for 7 years or so. Never really had a problem until recently when I noticed I've been getting double billed for the past 6 months. Have not had a chance to take it up with then yet but I imagine I'll get directed to some corporate rep for reconciliation...hopefukly that process doesn't sick.

Facility and staff have generally been pretty good, by my standards/needs at least.

As with most gyms, peak times suck.

I've never done any programs or classes there but my did for quite a while and seemed to enjoy it.

The new ymca in quarry park is a beautiful facility - worth checking out if it's not too far out for you.

Oh and I pay (or at least I'm suppose to be paying) 50 month which is very reasonable, I think.

I am both a past and current member. I had no real issues quitting the first time.

Only comment is that it is a small gym and the parking lot can be busy between 6 to 7.30 and hard to find a spot.

The old golds is not really much better for parking. Although there is a different crowd there - more eye candy

Just make sure your payments are on credit card not through your bank account. Makes cancelling a lot easier.

When I cancelled my GoodLife membership two years ago they tried giving me this BS that I still had to pay for the next month for some reason that I can't remember. I just told them that's fine if that's their policy. After I left I went straight to the bank and told them to stop authorizing payments from them. About a month later they called me 5 times in the span of a week. On the fourth call they said I had three days to contact them or further action would be taken. They called three days later and said my membership has been terminated because I hadn't payed them. Kind of annoying but it worked. Won't go back to GoodLife, too many gym bros there.

Did you get it cancelled? I don't blame you, many businesses are straight up predatory and will coerce/manipulate people in a plausible deniability kind of way.

Cancelled my account with Telus, said they overcharged and owed me $80, 2 weeks later a phone call says I owe them $240. They didn't get it but they sure as hell tried to manipulate me into giving them money for no reason.

MikeN is/was the sales manager there I think.

I've always enjoyed that location. I've been a member for 7 years. The mornings are better than the afternoons because the parking lot is pretty terrible.

That said, I'm thinking of cancelling. I do't go as often as I should since I've started using a bike trainer at home instead.

I'll see if transferring is easy. Might save you a sign up fee/contract.

My work regularly has silent auctions on yearly memberships to Goodlife. Last year, I was able to score one for $200. This year, I had to up it to $300 to be the highest bidder, but that's still worth it to me.

So yah, I have to pay the money all up front, but at least this way, Goodlife doesn't get any of my bank or cc info. They said I should keep on on file just so when my membership expires, it renews automatically. Lol, like I'd fall for that one.
