Cory Sarich on Fan 960
Hi all,
I heard this interview this morning on the Fan 960 and thought it was excellent. He was very candid about hockey and the Flames in general. Talks about the struggles of the top line, hockey today, the quality of the team and his time with Mike Keenan amongst other topics.
I always enjoyed his time with the Flames and who could ever forget that hit on Marleau in the playoffs?

The "top shelf" story is absolutely hilarious. I've heard Warrener was quite the teammate, that really cements it. I was howling on my commute this AM.

Isn't Glencross trying to get into the media thing too? I recall seeing him on tv conducting an interview with Scott Oak I think it was. Glencross was not the interviewee, he was one of the interviewers but didn't say much. Was kind of awkward actually..
Anyone else see this? It was with the last few weeks.

That Sarich hit on Marleau was one of the greatest moments of my childhood. One of the best games ever.

Wasn't he on sportsnet with Millions between intermissions? Only seen him the once, but they said he'd be on more. Agreed he didn't say much and did seem a bit awkward. Maybe he figured it wasn't for him after that.

I find some of the guys are awkward at first, and then settle in. Glencross may end up being really great and interesting to listen to, or he may flop. Kudos to him for trying, and I hope it works out for him.
I always loved Sarich. He had some monstrous hits while in Calgary, and played a fairly effective defensive game. Guy was always a warrior and left everything on the ice. You have to respect that.

Great interview.
- talked about how fast the game is nowadays. Sarich said fastest player he ever played with or against was Nathan MacKinnon. Also said the guy that just always had his number was Roenick.
- in reference to Johnny and Sean's struggles after signing big contracts Sarich was asked if he had ever experienced something like that and he talked about coming to Calgary with all the changes for him as well as a 'Difficult Coach'. He was obviously talking about Keenan and talked about the mind games he would play with his players. Keenan scratched Sarich when he was on a near 500 game iron man streak.
- Rhett's great story about the celebration on the plane after playing his first game in a while (came in for Sarich when he was scratched) and scoring a highlight real goal "Top Shelf"! Also funny was how when he was drunk he phone call to then GM D. Sutter was pretty funny too.
- talked about life in retirement from the game.
I'm sure I missed some stuff but it was awesome.

Wasn't that Sarich when talking about the best player he ever faced for the first time when he though pre-game he would try to outmuscle him and in realized one they faced he couldn't move him because he was so big and strong?
I feel really privileged to have watched Mario Lemieux play his career. Anyone that never got to see him play will never understand how such a big man could be able to make the sick moves he made. Without a doubt the greatest player I have ever seen play. He's the real life version of the EA NHL center you build when you make him big and ramp up all the skills to the max.
