When Congressional leaders solemnly swear to make you a one term President the day after the congressional election there isn't much to work with. That pack of mutants acted like they were negotiating with the devil.

Nice try. But it pretty much is.

Link?

It is, of course, the job of an opposition to make sure their opponent is a one-term President. What would you expect?

Who said that? I was curious what examples you would point to. The 90s and Carville. Hard to argue against a decade and PR guy.

You think James Carville was just a PR guy?

Well we should definitely focus on a minor point of my response instead of you clarifying anything about your vague accusations, that's for sure.

Is this the part of the thread where we collectively fall all over ourselves trying to decipher what peter means only for him to abandon the conversation before we gain any traction?

Peter on a nice afternoon carpet bomb.

Honestly Peter you remind me quite a bit of Trump. Can't let the tiniest thing go once you get into things. Repeatedly quote people and respond with baiting one liners often amounting to three words. Only difference is if you get cornered, you'll try to smoke and mirror people with word-isms rather than make up stuff out of thin air. So I'll give you that I guess.

I have a full-time job, and I often find the CP group-think pretty anathemic to a decent discussion. I also hate that every little thing has to be ground into obsessive fine details in order for someone to be satisfied enough to continue with a conversation. It's a despicable rhetorical tactic.

I am constantly irritated by the obsessive, uncritical partisanship repeatedly displayed in this thread.

Anyone moaning about the Republican juggernaut should do well to remember what Clinton was actually like back in the 1990s. They should know about James Carville before they feel entitled enough to moan about the destruction wrought upon American democracy by Republican shadow ops.

They should know about the incredible, and growing entitlement of the Presidency to dictate priorities to Congress. Yes, it started with GWB, but it has found its true champion in Barack Obama.

Yes, Republican shadow ops, and uber-partisanship are a problem, but for goodness sake, try to see the other side.

As an aside, I think many Clinton supporters are identical to many of the so-called Trump deplorables, but they are just armed with the smugness that comes from choosing the winning side.

Lots of cognitive dissonance spreading across both groups of partisans right now.

How about this one?

https://www.google.ca/amp/s/amp.theg...obstruct-obama

Quote:
Democrats have rounded on revelations about a private dinner of House Republicans on inauguration day in 2009 in which they plotted a campaign of obstruction against newly installed president Barack Obama.

During a lengthy discussion, the senior GOP members worked out a plan to repeatedly block Obama over the coming four years to try to ensure he would not be re-elected.
