That was pretty touching. However, this morning I see my Facebook and Twitter feed full of Oiler fans patting themselves on the back for their amazing show of class. Essentially they took Anderson's special night and made it about themselves.
Hey Edmonton, it's not classy to tell everyone how classy you are.

Reports are that the Oiler fans fled the building once the Sens scored an empty netter and it was the 100 or so Senators fans in the building who applauded Anderson when he was named first star.

To defend the Oilers and their fans for two posts in a row, I doubt there were many people in there who were aware of the story with Anderson. Obviously they made a big deal of it on the TV broadcast, but did they make any significant mention of it in the arena? I can't imagine it would have been anything beyond a brief announcement, if even that, and I can understand people not grasping the situation. Especially casual fans.

1.5 ppg and under 1 ppg is a massive gap
I think most people expected 80-90 points...which is really good but certainly not record book shattering as some would have you believe
wait and see...I made a bet he wouldn't win the art ross with some Oiler fan who gave me the field. Was a good bet

I know what you mean by "grain of the thread" and I agree 100% with your comment.
I just wanted to note that people take this thread sometimes a bit too seriously, and it is a lot of fun with some very witty stuff, but Mrs. Anderson's cancer is so far beyond hockey games or sports that it does provide a bit of reality to us all.
Regardless of whom was left or applauded Craig Anderson at the rink, it is human to wish the best and provide the support that teammates on all different teams need during difficult times.
All of us have been through the Cancer thing with someone we love and care about, and I cannot fathom how hard it must have been for Craig Anderson to play, never mind to play as well as he did.
I just wanted to say for me personally that although I have posted some pretty crazy stuff about the Oilers on this thread and its predecessors, I have respect for Craig Anderson and his wife and family, and I applaud with the Oilers and Senators fans what Craig Anderson did when he played last night.

Yes. He will regress. Because 1.5 PPG in the NHL isn't sustainable, even for the best. You take it like it's some sort of insult to the player. I say it because it happens every year. Gaudreau was one of those players last year at around 1.2-1.3 PPG early on. Regressing to a point per game when you're 19 isn't exactly a slight on the player. And yeah, should have, could have. I'm pretty sure we say the same thing most nights about Gaudreau. So what? Could have, but didn't. Most good players have a handful of close chances per game because that's what sets them apart. The more scoring chances you generate the more you cash in on, that's why they get the amount of points they do. If they awarded points for almost scoring there'd be a number of players racking them up. But they do not.

I think it should also be noted that he was wearing navy/blue sweatpants... Or does that just go without saying?

That can't be true. I've been assured that no one would ever wear sweatpants to Rogers Place. That's just a horrible slur that was completely fabricated by Edmonton-hating Calgarians.

Listen, sweat pants are a staple in Edmonton.
I just bought my first pair in 35 years. (just moved back to Edmonton in January)
I have seen people wearing sweats to work, government workers do it all the time.
That's really hard to get used to.

Where to even start with this.
First, no, 1.5 ppg in the NHL is not unsustainable for the best. Crosby has done it in five seasons. He's done 1.3 in ten. There's no reason to suspect that McDavid can't do likewise.
Gaudreau's history is not relevant. Gaudreau is not a generational player. He's one of my favourite players in the league regardless of team, he's an amazing talent and insanely fun to watch but he will not have the career McDavid will likely have, because almost no one will.
If he's generating scoring chances at the same rate, that does not indicate that he is "cooling off", it indicates random variance. Some stretches, he will go through a few games where everything goes in. Other stretches, nothing will. But at the end of the day he's going to be a big producer in this league, barring major injury.
He is who he was advertised to be. The pre-draft hype was justified. He's actually that good. It sucks that the Oilers got him, but that's how it played out. Denying that reality is silly.

Sorry to nitpick but Crosby has only done 1.5 once in a full season 2006-7. Not sure you can count the years he only played 22 games and got 37 points (2011-12) and such. He's done 1.3 four times in full seasons and he is a career 1.3 point per game player.]
I don't believe anyone, including mcdavid will get 1.5 points per game over a full 82 any time soon. Let's see if mcdavid can even play 82 first.
