Agreed, and it's baffling. I think the effort is there, but he's been really fighting the puck in these first 10 games. Perhaps he's simply feeling the pressure to earn his massive salary and squeezing the stick as a result, trying to do too much.

To put that in perspective, that is only HALF as bad as the final season of Keenan coached Flames hockey.

Imagine if this team - or the Keenan team - actually had decent special teams. They would be something real special

Special my ass.

1) Turn Brain Off
2) Play extremely loose coverage
3) Acquire puck miraculously
4) Pass puck along wall to opponent
5) Hope Elliott Makes some saves
6) Take point shots to pad shot stats.

They have all the ingredients for a good pp. Great passers and skaters in Brodie and Johnny. Good muscle and grit in Brouwer. Good point shots in Wideman and Gio. Good trigger men in Monahan, Brouwer, Bennett.

Their puck chasing and retrieval has been sub par. And teams have figured out Johnny's zone entry.

Yeah, he's doing things way out of character, and I don't think his or Monahan's d-zone play is even close to what it has been in the past. They're not stalwarts, but they're capable and neither seem interested in getting the puck in our zone. So they stay hemmed in the d-zone for whole shifts at a time.

I also think our D have been piss poor at moving the puck up the wall. Constant rims and blind throwaways.

Backlund's line and Bennetts line have both been much better. Even the forth line looks to be putting in a good effort and getting chances. It used to be that a shift from the top line was almost a guaranteed chance on goal, now I just find myself shaking my head when they're on the ice more often than not.

Our PP is just horrific. Johnny and Monahan are totally out of sync.

They have no one on the half boards - no Hudler or (pre-Hudler) Iggy.

No one wants to hear the analysts anyway. Sportsnet is doing us a favor actually.

They swing the point to the half boards. Hamilton has as good a wrister from the half boards or top of the circle as anyone.

Really plays start at the half boards but rarely will a shot from there score. That's why Johnny plays there to start plays.

Two PP goals against a 44% penalty kill and a perfect shot against an opponent swarming the entire right side without a man to protect the slot. That is the only reason we scored goals.

I hate it say it but it may be time to split Johnny and Monahan up to try to get them going. They don't seem on the same page like we've seen them in previous seasons. The only problem is, I feel like the other lines are all establishing pretty solid chemistry

Would work significantly better if there was a half-board option opposite Johnny in addition to a defenseman who could wire it from the point.
