[QUOTE=Vulcan;5981665]There is a vaccine.[/

I suggest getting your flu shots and if you are undecided about getting the flu shot , simple things such as washing your hands are some of the ways to delay or even avoid this infection.

Never had it, but had bronchitis a few times. If you cough and struggle to catch your breath, and/or it hurts like heck, and/or you had a feaver get checked out. I jnow that seems obvious but I put off treatment for weeks. Got on antibiotics and within a few days was back to normal.

Healthy people can still get seriously ill from it. Make sure to see a doctor if unsure.

Appreciate all the responses so far. Mine started off as the flu then just kept progressing until I would have these ridiculous coughing spells. Again just thought it was the flu... took a day off work but keep powering through which is tough cause my job is literally to talk on the phone to clients across North America. Decided to make an appointment with the doc not really for the cough but for a cyst that developed on my chest. He told me I had pneumonia and sent me for a chest X-ray. Gave me a puffer and some antibiotics which oddly enough treats both the pneumonia and the cyst. Fun times

Bee propolis is supposed to be fantastic for respiratory infections both bacterial and viral as well as general immune system support. I've taken it for a year and have kicked a chronic cough and bronchitis. It might be worth adding it to the prescribed mix.

lol how can anyone believe that stuff? I've never heard of bee propolis being used as "general immune system support" yet it was so obvious that it was BS it took one google search to debunk it.

Bee pollen products are a classic example of the current fallacies of the supplement industry. The claims made for such products are full of hype but are completely unsubstantiated by rigorous scientific evidence. What little evidence we do have shows that it is ineffective.

That's how I had always treated getting sick before I had pneumonia (just powering through). I wore it as a badge of pride that I rarely if ever took a sick day. So dumb. If I had taken care of the pneumonia by going to a doctor way earlier and given my body the rest I needed to get better I probably wouldn't have gotten so sick. Careful with this.

Propolis not pollen. They're different things. I get what you're saying though. No need to further your case.

I had it years ago, mild case that I put up with for close to a month. It was getting harder and harder to play hockey, could never catch a breath. And when I would lie down it felt like a massive weight on my chest. After a few days of antibiotics I was fine.

Turns out I actually had lung cancer and the pneumonia was because the cancer had collapsed my right lung and the antibiotics were basically useless.

I lived with pneumonia for multiple months while I was waiting for surgery. Awful time in my life.
I hope you are doing better now?

I feel great now thanks. I lost most of my right lung but I am still young (30) so it shouldn't impact my life as much as if I was older. The surgery I had (thoracotomy/lobectomy) took a long time to recover from but the psychological effects were worse.

I was 29 when I was diagnosed and have never been a smoker so it felt unfair. I've come to terms with it just being a total crappy roll of the dice.
