I think the new system is part of the issue with Gaudreau. Last year the team had these long stretch passes to always break Johnny out. This year they play as a tight five man unit, and it means he needs to play far more with his entire line of team mates. You watch them, whether defence or in the offense zone, they really pressure as this tight five man unit, it is a very different style and changes his responsibility. The other thing is that he is playing the half boards way more on the power play. Last year it seemed he set it up on the point, and it gave him more room.

Johnny is fine. He has 7 points already and he's controlling the game like he used too. Its his linemates that are holding him back if anything but even they're not bad recently. This system is working right now, if that means Johnny finishes with 70 points instead of 82 that's not a big deal.

I don't think this isn't a hockey issue, this is a Johnny issue. I know when the team was in Vancouver he was out until 4am the night before the game. I don't think his head is in hockey right now, and he needs to turn it around.

That's just classic flame fanboy talk. Johnny and Mony are being paid over $10 million, it shouldn't matter who is on the rw. They are the stars they should be driving the play. It was the same way with Iggy, it was never his fault even though his game had deteriorated to being a one dimensional shooter. It was always the scrubs fault but not the stars fault.
There's no one to blame for Johnny and Mony struggles than themselves. They both missed training camp, they will work through it. It doesn't matter who is on that rw.

Thats what 23 year olds do. That's not going to change unless you want to get rid of the youth.

You answered your own question in the first paragraph. Missing camp and learning a new system was obviously a big factor in their slow start. And even starting slow, Gaudreau is approaching a point a game pace.
They'll be fine.
Couldn't disagree more with your last statement though, and really shows some ignorance on your part. "Doesn't matter' who's on their RW? A rotating door makes it very difficult to develop chemistry. It mattered back when we tried to have David Moss play with Iginla, and it matters now. Really head-scratching assertion on your part.

While Bennett's penalties are annoying as a team to have to kill, getting called for being over aggressive is way better than the type of penalties Tkachuk will get being a douchy pest, but some fans here get so excited for the latter. If the whole team started playing more like Sam the refs wouldn't be able to call all of it and we'd be a much harder team to play against. Not to mention perfectly suited to the playoffs. In the coming years I look forward to McDavid vs Bennett matchups where Sams over aggressive play neutralizes Connors speed & confidence. We (and most other teams) have very little options to successfully shut McJesus down (currently Backlund is still probably our best matchup option).
Sorry about the long winded post, but I'll take Bennetts beast mode he's trying to establish consistently because he'll get smarter and we're better off with that edge to his game.

Yeah I highly doubt the superbowl party incident was the "one and only" time such a thing happened with that group.
that said it's not my business how late they stay out. players days can be relatively free and they can take naps whenever they want. there's no reason they have to sleep 11-7 or whatever like us ordinary plebs.

This has been said a few times now, but he has four points in his last two games... and is closing back in on a point a game pace.
No doubt he can be a lot better, but I think it's s stretch to say his head isn't in the game. He very much looks to be heating up and has already turned it around from the pointless nights at the beginning of the season.

Are you insane? Whether the story is true or not professional hockey players should not be out until 4 a.m. on the day before a game. What are you talking about?

Yeah but yet it happens all of the time and always has. Not saying it should just that its unavoidable to have a group of multi millionaires in their twenties slip up once in a while, I wouldn't worry about it unless you hear about it becoming a problem.
The night before the Vancouver game was a Friday. Pretty sure everyone here has stories of going out on a Friday when you really shouldn't have.

Not really sure what the "issue" is. Flames have won 3 in a row, Johnny has 4 points in those games and should really have an assist in the Chicago game. Results and numbers are there. It's his body language?

If you were to sit out players who go out late before games or practices, you wouldn't be able to roster a team lol. Part of managing a team.

yeah, definitely heard more than one rumour about Johnny's partying and extra-curricular activities. The stories I have heard, and I'm not totally sure I buy them, but if true would be probably not good, and he isn't alone in it. Also, no different than stories I'd heard about Kipper, Iginla, Phaneuf... etc. I think it's just the lifestyle.
And if the stories are true, it should come as a surprise to nobody though. These are rich young men traveling to multiple cities and have celebrity status. As long as they play hockey well, none of the rest really matters. But if they don't play well... you gotta wonder.
But I thought he was pretty good last night actually.

Yes, I think Johnny made reference, during an interview after the game, to someone in the dressing room saying something that got them going again...I'm guessing Gio and the Coach.
The game was so important to get back to 50%.

Regardless of the source, it's rumour mongering and not what we want on the site. Let's let this go and move on.
