Seemed to me Gulutzan handled the leash based on Experience.

Tkachuk was the first one back in the game, then Bennett, and then like I said I don't thijnk I saw versteeg the rest of the game but I wasn't paying as close attention in the final 2 minutes.

I will take the win for sure, and Elliott deserves all the credit. The edge in goalie play was the difference in the game. The team did not look great and although Gaudreau and Hamilton had multi point games, I didn't think they really stood out.

Would love to see a nice long winning streak. For that to happen there will be games like this where you win after beating outplayed.

Flames penalties

Tkachuk - 1st - Holding the stick
Bennett - 1st - Tripping
Versteeg - 2nd - Holding the stick
Bennett - 2nd - Holding

BENCHED!

That'll hopefully learn 'em

1 Hamilton, 2 Elliott, and 3 Chiasson (though I didn't think Chiasson was very good)

What stood out to me with the benchings was how well the Flames were able to play rolling only 3 lines. Kind of a testament to the depth of the team when the fourth line can step up the minutes and fill in like that.

I like this coach, so far he has made more positive moves than negative. This is good coaching and a good message to players.

It definitely wasn't pretty but we won, that's all we want right? Will these guys learn and stop taking bad penalties? I think they are smart enough to learn and the coach calling them out will likely help.

Sometimes we forget that Matt Stajan's career high in points would be 3rd on this roster ahead of Giordano, Wideman, Bennett, Backlund, etc.

He's a heck of a 4C in a system that doesn't have him diving for shot blocks all the time.

Especially since when the decision was made, it was a 1-goal game

Bennett has taken a lot of penalties to start the year 20 PIMS to be exact. Quite a bit just 9 games in. He'll learn from his mistakes and work harder to get better at keeping his feet moving instead of taking lazy penalties.

I just looked at the box score and Flames had 5 goals on 19 shots???

Were they nice goals are did the Sens let in a lot of stinkers?

Ferland really turned it on in the third with the extra ice time.

I still don't like him with Gaudreau and Monahan or on the PP because of the compulsion to pass, but I thought with the extra ice he really put it to good use.

I'd like to see him be more bullish with the puck though, more selfish with the understanding that if he can back defenders off and create his own chances, his teammates will benefit. Maybe he's doing exactly as the coaches are telling him though, what do I know?

Two goals were nice goals off the rush (Monahan/Frolik), two were fortunate bounces off of Sens players' sticks (both Hamilton goals), and one was a good goal crashing the net (Bennett).

Sens definitely outplayed the Flames on a whole but Flames have never had a problem scoring on very few shots since this "current era" began in January 2014, IMO.

The second Sens goalie looked very shaky. Was his NHL debut so could have been nerves. None of the goals were horrible but he wasn't making any saves either.

I think Michael Frolik has been excellent. Really impressive. Backlund too.
