Kanzig?
Huge. One of the fittest players in camp each year since he's been drafted. Apparently keen to learn and a student of the game.
I have no problem with using a 3rd round pick on him. Let's see what he can become.

Will LV be able to offer sheet McDavid during that window? Something like 12x12?

Hard to offer sheet someone who is on a contract.

No, McDavid will still have another year on his ELC.

No, but I think unless Sam Bennett has an extension by then they could go after him.

I have a hard time believing a new franchise with no prospect base would be blowing draft picks by signing RFA's to offer sheets.

They could conceivably outbid and outpay any NHL team for any UFA/RFA if they really wanted to.

If they are technically drafting the UFA, does that mean they can offer an 8 year deal instead of just 7?

But the Flames could protect Bennett, which would prevent that.

People are getting way too worked up over the expansion draft. The Flames will lose someone no better than Joe Colborne, who they lost for nothing last summer. Vegas is going to end up with a team of 3rd liners and 4-5-6 Dmen and older B-level prospects. That team is going to be bad, and they're going to be in the Flames division, so this expansion is actually a big win for teams in the Pacific trying to steal wild card spots from the teams in the Central.

The thing that irks me most about the expansion draft is that we'll have to go through the same BS in a couple of years again. The league should have found a way to introduce two new teams at the same time and make everybody prepare for it by giving clear rules in advance. Instead, they'll have two expansion drafts in a short span and seemingly make up rules on the fly. Ridiculous.

Yeah that's true, but the same goes for the McDavid scenario. I just worded poorly that the 48 hours wouldn't apply to McDavid because of his contract but would for Bennett because of his contract status. In both cases the player is going to be on a protected list so you're right, it's a moo point.

McDavid is exempt though. Is Bennett exempt as well?

I haven't actually been able to figure that out. He only played 1 regular season game in 14/15 so I don't think that counts as a pro year so technically he is a second year pro this year. I could be wrong but I thought there was something like a 20 game threshold to be considered a pro year but I could be mixing up Calder vs professional year vs RFA year.

I'm willing to bet the next NHL team is a relocation.

I'll agree with some posters here that Kanzig is a stretch, but I'd argue that a guy like Rasmus Andersson could also potentially fill an Engelland void. Maybe a Stepan Falkovsky in a few years, or an Adam Ollas Mattsson.

No. A player has to have been on a team's roster at the previous trade deadline in order to be able to sign an 8 year contract.

Playoff games count towards the 10 games played mark, so the 2014-15 season counts as Bennett's first season. Bennett will have 3 pro seasons played after this year, and will need to be protected in the expansion draft.

I can't wait to see Andersson physically punish and then beat the crap out of Milan Lucic.

I see you decided to double down. Not always a wise decision.
Andersson and Engelland couldn't be more different players. Do you think of Andersson is a tough guy because of that 1 fight Nurse wrecked him in? He's not a fighter and he's not a stay at home defenseman...
