If your saying "Vegans" have a right to push there belief because they have this idea that animals are the same as humans....then I have a right to tell them they are a bunch of idots because I think animals are all the same and they are nothing more than a food for other animals, including humans.

Yes you do have the right to your own beliefs, never once said you didn't... so let them have theirs, the right to free speech is also a wonderful thing...

I think you are missing my point. Yes...they have a right to free speech....so do non "Vegans"....instead of them each yapping at each other....just leave each other alone. Worry about yourself and not others. Yes I see what your trying to say with the "black" example but you really cannot compare the two. A bug, fish, chicken or dog are not on the same level as humanity. Although black people were treated like animals, they were not animals.

That's your belief, but if you did hold the belief that they are which vegans do then I believe you would be inclined to do something about it, or you wouldn't for fear of being labelled an idiot by some close minded person.

This is what I am talking about....I start of by saying let Vegans believe what they want....then you tried to start a fight. Let it go already.

Never started a fight just tried to explain things from a Vegan point a view, which you kept responding by not even arguing what I was saying , but instead kept saying animals aren't equal to humans. You were the first with personal attacks by calling Vegans idiots which I happen to be...

Animals to live free of exploitation?
What are they going to start arresting Lions on the Savannah in Africa that unfairly exploit Gazelles?
It's called nature.

Do you think a bug is equal to a cat?

Well, Lions don't have the capacity to live a herbivorous life humans do. If you want to continue this debate which you undoubtedly will b/c you like to attempt to act like you know things about topics which you obviously are ignorant of I will gladly school you in this area as well.

It's very possible. However, biologists have shown that bugs most likely have no ability to feel pain so that leads to it be nearly impossible to be cruel to them since the feel no emotional or physical pain...

Show me some data where biologists say bugs don't feel pain.
Pain is can be caused by several things one being neurophysiological. Meaning if you have nerves....you feel pain.
And if that is the case....how do you feel about killing all those poor little bugs when you drive down the road in the summer time?

What I find funny is how in this thread we have a Vegan and an Omnivore debating this; when in fact the initial point in the thread was one that we all agreed upon; that this kind of treatment of animals is uncalled for and should be punished.

Nociceptors are the nerve cells we and other animals have that feel pain. Insects do not have these receptors, however it could be possible that they feel it in another way, but the majority of entymologists seem to think they don't feel pain.

That's one of my favorites. Praying Mantises eat their young. It's called nature. There are species of ants that have slaves. It's called nature. There are certain species of ducks where the male violently attacks the female before, during and after sex. It's called nature.
By nature, men hit women over the head and drag them back to the cave.
Or, we could say that are civilized and make our moral choices based on reason and the wish to not cause suffering rather than be neanderthals guided solely by natural instincts.

Well, that would be a boring 8 post thread, wouldn't it? I like that debate can evolve out of a different topic, otherwise what's the point of posting a news article where we're all on the same page? I don't think anyone is in favour of animal cruelty... what else is there to talk about on the topic? Do we have to post a new thread every time we stray?
