Time to fire headcoach. Not even to save a season. Save roster young players progression. His pk diamond system is trash.
Even when we lost 8 or 9 in a row with Hartley, team played well.

That's the way it appeared to me. Maybe had something to do with the 3 to 0 lead halfway through the game. The Canes are a big physical team, and quite strong along the boards.
Calgary seemed to be stifled for most of the game...it wasn't pretty to watch.
I think the goaltending has a lot to do with team confidence. While our goaltending was weak, theirs was rather strong.

We still have more than 9/10 of the season to do better.
If the next 5 games are a reversal of the first 5 then we've essentially pressed reset and are treading water. The team performing better against tougher opponents is something we have seen from them before.

The Flames, on the whole, have played well at 5 on 5 this season. A lot of sloppy giveaways in the first 2 games, but they've tightened up considerably since then. They haven't been able to generate a whole lot, but they have been able to play some fairly good defense at least.
I know we're used to a very exciting style, but maybe GG's system is supposed to be a lot more boring, low-event type.
However, the special teams have been a special kind of terrible. Hiring Dave Cameron to run this team's powerplay after Ottawa's disgustingly bad season last year is, honestly, a fireable offense. I can't believe someone with the good sense that BT has did such an idiotic thing.
Calgary's PK last year was garbage so it's not surprising that is still is. Hopefully the coaching staff can figure this out otherwise I think they might be moving on quickly.

Scoring goals isn't the problem we should be worrying about. Sure a pp goal would have helped big time but keeping pucks out would be a much better thing to worry about and Wideman isn't helping in that area any time soon.
Seriously there is something wrong in the core. I don't know what it is but we've been terrible defensively under 3 coaches and several different goaltenders.

Hearing Monahan talk about how they should be better makes me want to puke.
Honestly he's been garbage every single game and almost every shift. Like I don't understand what happened to these guys over the summer.
Did they just party and drink all summer? Brodie went from looking like one of the fastest players in the league to looking slow and drunk most shifts.
I get they're learning a new system but these players don't look motivated at all and look so slow. Bennett back checking tonight was painful to watch. Can't believe people thought he'd be better than Gaudreau. He's not even in the same stratosphere as Gaudreau. Yes he is young but he has a long way to go and I'm not seeing improvement. He's playing like an Oiler with his toe drags and attempt to go through 4 guys all the time.
This has been the most frustrating season in over 10 years easily. Even the young guns era wasn't this painful to watch.

Holy step back from the ledge...the season is barely a week old. If you actually think this is the worst hockey you've seen in 10 years, I have to question if you've even been watching the flames for 10 years.

I have to admit I am enjoying the melodramatic overreactions by many here.
It's feels oddly therapeutic.

Talk is Cheap
Quote:
“It’s not a whole-game issue — it’s just slight breakdowns here and there,” Elliott said after the Flames’ latest setback. “And it starts with me. I have to make a save here and there, too, to keep us in it. It’s hard coming back from these games, when you spot ’em a couple goals early and you’re always working from behind.”
|
Quote:
“The easy thing is to get frustrated and to put your head down and hang your head a little bit,” Elliott said. “But what got us all here, to this league, is perseverance and that relentless attitude that no matter what happens, we’ll get it done. We keep that going and a good attitude, and we’ll be OK.”
|
Quote:
“A couple of times, our power play had chances to bail us out ... and we didn’t get anything. It took a lot of life out of us,” said Flames head coach Glen Gulutzan. “I think our confidence is lost maybe on our power-play, and that’s what we have to get back. To me, that’s the focal point — getting a bit of mojo on that and getting some run support for our goalie.”
|
Quote:
“I think it’s more frustrating right now,” said Flames alternate captain Sean Monahan. “I mean, we’re working hard, it’s just we have to get on the same page here. Some things aren’t going as well as they should be, and we have to get on the same page and work together here.”

It must be hard for you to accept his play . After all you just came out last season and out did his piont total. I can understand why you are mad tho. You just trained all summer more then he could have possibly had the time too. Then having to hear this plug of a player have the audacity to say the things he did after just coming off a majour back injury. How dare he say those terrible things.
What a watse of the sixth overall pick. He clearly didn't train hard this summer. Looks like he still has a hangover from this summer. I don't belive he seriously injured his back only last month from "trianing".
Greentext/ end.
I hope you see how ridiculous my post sounded because clearly you didnt clearly unsterstood how your post sounded jusr as silly.

Deryk has been solid so far. He's one of the few players that hasn't brought me to heaving my foam brick at the TV.

That is a joke. I have never let in 10. But the pro implication is to score, say, 5 and hope that Elliott can take care of the rest.
Technically I guess it would have worked tonight (the only time out of his 3 starts) but in reality this is an excuse used for guys like Kipper that let in 1 or 2 and still lose.
I am starting to question the coach.

At certain moments, Gully looks like a deer caught in headlights. I worry that he his in over his head.

5 games in and you want Gulutzan fired?! How is that remotely logical? So it's Gulutzan that can't catch a pass and treats the puck like a grenade? Some of the accountability has to fall on the players for playing like ####. I'm sick of this blaming the coach and his system 5 games into the season. Players need to execute some plays ffs.

I really hope this team turns it around because they look terrible right now. Bennett looks out of place at times and Tkchuck looks lost, if things don't turn around and these guys don't pick up their game then I think Tkchuck should go down. It's hard to pick which guys are playing really bad because the whole team is. This sucks lol

I agree with firing Gully now. If we keep him, I think we will look back in hindsight and see what a disaster his 1 or 2 years were and that it would have been wise to fire him early in season one. Its similar to Edminton trying to ride out Eakins and hope things would turn around for him and they never did.
