I loved watching Tkachuk last night, especially in the third! Exactly the kinda player we need and was being a pest without being dirty, love it!

Sabres did a pretty solid job on taking away ice from our forwards, Johnny always seemed to have no time/space to do anything. I don't remember Johnny ever struggling like this, his end to end rushes are nice but usually he's superb at finding his teammates, him and Mony seem to be struggling with chemistry right now, hopefully that OT goal changes that.

I know our possession numbers are good but we're not generating quality chances, most our shots are from outside. Always been my main gripe with Corsi/Fenwick is that they assume all shots are the same, not true. We may be out-attempting teams but man we have very few shots from the slot, very few dangerous shots.

Our D has played quite well the last two games, not just the D players but even the forwards are buying in and it's limited chances for the other team. However we are still making careless turnovers (Brodie and Gio both guilty of a few) and even though our shots against are low we're still having the occasional breakdown and giving up quality chances. I'm not worried tho, the D is improving every game.

Worried about our offense though, I don't care if we continue to win the possession numbers, if we don't start generating quality chances, we won't win many games. Corsi logic dictates the more shots you fire at the net the more likely you are to succeed, which is somewhat true given that so many goals are tips or rebounds that are just a result of firing away. However I still think you need to be able to generate quality in the slot chances, our forwards need to be better. Looked decent against edmonton but the last two games we've been flat.

Anyways so many things we can improve on from last night and we still got the win, just really hope we can figure out the offense, if so, we could be deadly!

So good it's inspired me to watch ACs Ferland Vs. Canucks video.

Ferland will have more success if he starts shooting the puck more instead of trying to distribute it.

Take it to the net and jam it in there.

He had a great game and he wasn't even overly aggressive like he was in the Vancouver series. Skate hard, forcheck hard, play smart defensively, and put the puck on net.

I hope he sustains that type of play.

Yeah Ferland always seems to make one or two nice moves to get around guys and then his pass is poor which negates the good play he just made. Maybe shoot more or take one extra second on the pass.

He had a few rough turnovers, one that just about ended up in the back of the net.

I think he's gotta really simplify how he plays from the centre-line in, too many good plays end up dying forcing a pass that isn't there. Chip and chase, shoot hard, hit the net.

Except Monahan wouldn't embellish it by falling to the ice.

I also don't visit losing PGT threads until the next morning when people have cooled off and start making reasonable posts.
I started the game a half hour later on the PVR and once I caught up I started the GT and it was so negative and IMO didn't reflect the game at all.

that settles it

Put him lower down in the line up and he doesn't feel he has to be distributing. All of a sudden he has more confidence in himself to finish. I think that is where he belongs.

Is there any chance someone can post a gif or video of Tkachuck's big hit in the third? I can't seem to find them. Thanks

Reinhart coming into the corner sees Monahan coming in as well.

They both stop completely when they get to the corner and Reinhart turns to the boards to protect the puck. The ref is looking right at the two with perfect line of sight.

Monahan, clearly out of options, puts his stick across Reinhardt lower back and pushes him over.

Monahans motion was not a quick crisp extension like a traditional cross check, it was a push towards the boards.

The position of Monahans stick on Reinhart's lower back would push someone forward, not down. Reinhart embellished the downward motion and lunges himself into the boards in attempt to draw a penalty as he had no where to go.

That's how I see it anyway.

Great non-call and great play by both Monu and JG.
I wouldn't call it a dirty play but it was a cross check and should have been a 2 minute penalty. It didn't get called so I'm not going to complain or anything but I can understand why the Sabres were upset.

Monahan barely touched him. It was an absolute sell by Reinhart.

My perception is the league got a lot more parity in the last three years and it's tougher to win games. Even the Oilers, and it hurts to say, got better.

The Flames seem to play down to their perceived opponent, Buffalo, Edmonton and Vancouver all perceived bottom feeders. So the hot shot Flames show up thinking easy win. But that doesn't exist anymore and the Flames haven't figured out every game will be a battle, there's no 40 minute efforts that get wins anymore. It just doesn't happen.

There are no more off days and halfassed October games and the Flames core has yet to adapt to that. There is no more B game, only A game efforts will get wins.

In your opinion. The way you have it worded is like you know better, and that just isn't the case.

I beg to differ and think that the fact it was a non-call speaks to the ease with which Reinhart fell over like he was a jersey full of air. It was OT, and going down that easy instead of trying to battle is vintage 2010-ish Vancouver Canucks hockey. Text-book non-call in that situation imo.

Nah. That's a 2 minute cross checking penalty.

Agree on the parity aspect of your post, but I have no idea how you can draw a "hot shot", over-confident, take on explaining the Flames performance.

That has been the Flames MO since 2006. Take it easy on the ''weak'' teams because it's a guaranteed win. Probably the main reason we lost the WCQF to the Ducks in '06. Hell the team was already talking about playing Edmonton in round 2 and the Ducks used that as motivation.

As the last decade has shown us, that mentality leads to nowhere. But I don't think it's just the Flames who do that. Every team in the NHL does that.
