So true. And it's not like he's gonna be getting 4 minutes a night either. He is legitimately a 2nd/3rd line guy and will be getting the minutes he needs to develop.
Him staying will help him and help the team. No brainer, IMO.

I just don't think that a boxer gets better by punching out babies, eventually after feeling good about knocking out 175 babes you go up against Mike Tyson and he beats you into a coma because fighting babies teaches you nothing.
A kid that's NHL ready isn't going to learn much by going down and dominating at that level. We can all talk about how it builds his confidence up. But the bottom line is an NHL coach should be able to manage a players emotional state.

That 3rd period last night he looked like he did with the Knights. Laying guys out, the goal was very typical of him. He finds the small hole that the goalie thinks he has covered. He gets under the skin of the opponent so easily. Love having a guy like that on my team in any sport.

I think Bennett is evidence for exactly why you don't want to over ripen players in Junior (not saying he was, just his style).
He keeps trying things that work in junior but almost never work against NHL players. If he would've spent more time in Junior he wouldn't have improved, he most likely would've just been more entrenched in his bad habits.

Love Tkachuk's game. He's forcing his hand to stay I'd say. That mouth guard habit though....

Am I wrong that it looks like the writing is on the wall? He's getting moved down the lineup and is only getting just over 10 mins a game at this point. I didn't watch last night's game but if the were intent on keeping him up you'd think he would be getting more ice time. I remember Burke saying that a rookie needs a consistent 15 minutes per game or they are better off at a lower level.

He would have been around 15 minutes but a combination of admitted bad play (by him) and the parade to the penalty box by the Flames led to him only having one PP shift in the 2nd period by my count.

Burke was interviewed at the intermission last night and was asked if Tkachuk would be sent down. He flat out said his policy is to usually send players down but that Tkachuk would be getting his 9 games and that he has made the decision very hard for them already.

He was benched for the most part of the second period. I don't notice him playing badly but definitely lackluster in the first. He responded like a professional and came out in the third reminiscent of Ferland vs Vancouver. He was out for blood, hitting, scoring and taking his game up a notch.
You could call it a demotion playing with Chaisson and Stajan instead of Bennett and Brower but I think it did wonders and as well as that fourth line has been playing, it lifted his game. If the writing was on the wall I think he did a good job of whitewashing it with that period. Now he has 5 games to follow it up and continue with that intensity.

Am I alone in wishing Burke would take a hike? I just don't see why we have to have 2 GMs at this point. GMBT seems more than competent.

I'm not too concerned with Burke's "policy". There were similar questions as to where Bennett, Monahan, and Gaudreau to start their careers and all of them went straight to the NHL. His policy for blue chip prospects actually seems to be the opposite of what he says!
