One of the things that I was told when I was starting out was to spend extra money on suits and shoes (things that can be seen and will last and last) and save money on socks, underwear and shirts (which wear out and aren't necessarily seen - shirts being the exception there when you take your jacket off).
I was reminded recently to always keep a pair of new black dress socks off to the side in your sock drawer for interviews or other key sessions where a new pair would be important. This could include when you might have to take your shoes off, and therefore eliminate worry about worn socks showing.
judging by this thread, I've been doing it wrong!

My calves are pretty big and defined, and I have a problem with dress socks refusing to stay up as well. This thread was perfectly timed as I had this problem with my dress socks at a wedding I was at recently, and have more of them coming up. I'm considering rocking a sock garter.
Ha - I also have thick legs with large calf muscles

so I recently purchased a couple of extra pairs of cycling socks - I am finding it to be some kind of awesome to have my socks stay up all day
only downside woiuld be the price as cycling socks run $15 to $18 per pair; however, I am assuming that the price is less than what Nordstrom's charges at their sock bar

What brand are you liking? I could get used to cycling socks all day...Problem is most of mine have things like beer pitchers, shamrocks and "born to ride" on them...

As long as you're wearing pants, what does it matter? Mine were bright red yesterday.
I've been using compression socks for the last few weeks and I really like them. I like the functionality of them and it's been a pure bonus to find a pair with an Argyle design.
I didn't mind the price as I'm quite certain these socks would easily outlast several packs of dress socks. But the additional functionality just blows the comparison out of the water.
