Yup. And who was the General Manager of that tire fire? An Oiler you say? And the coach? Also an Oiler? No way! And the Captain? An Oiler too? No....

Were they instantly eliminated? They were? I bet no one saw that coming.

From Friedman:
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/3...ames-gaudreau/

Quote:
Players are entitled to four mandatory days off per month, to be agreed-upon at the beginning of each calendar change. According to Section 16.5 (a) of the agreement, “The parties recognize that events may unfold such that the monthly schedule may need to be altered or modified to adjust for unforeseen and compelling circumstances.”

The key words are the last two. At the time, I specifically asked both the league and the union if a brutal performance counted. Could a coach say, “We were garbage tonight, tomorrow’s day off is cancelled?”

Both sides said, “No, that doesn’t count.” Compelling circumstances were supposed to be things like unforeseen travel problems. Western teams struggle with the rule for a second reason: travel days can’t be used as one of the four. That compresses their practice schedule even more.

Oh man, did coaches complain when they discovered the full impact. Taking away days off due to poor performance is a tried and true strategy, but that arrow was gone from the quiver.

Darryl Sutter was tough on his players but you he never pulled stunts like this and never embarrassed players in the media. That's the difference between a mediocre coach and a great coach.
Hard to imagine how you can fix problems when they start with your bosses who have more job security than you ever will.

It must be a pop up picture book because everyone knows nobody in Edmonton can read.

I couldn't help myself. It reeked of fat guys with goatees, sweatpants with dress shoes, 80's Oiler references, Oil Derrek nostalgia, and 10 years of gut punches... but I had to read some of it

It's real and just about as pathetic as you think.

Was a decent enough read until somehow a wildcatter got blamed for the oilers.

Jesus. That is the kind of thing I would expect from a a middle-aged guy in sweatpants and mustard stains on his wife beater who thinks that self-publishing an e-book would be cool. It is truly ridiculous that a member of the MSM wrote that.

Because of all this fawning and books being released within a year of his career starting, I can't wait for the book a few years down the road

"Why did he leave us, and why isn't he returning our calls" The Connor McPoopypants story and how he left a city high and dry.

Well...I think they referred to Edmonton as a 'Dry Hole' so they might be on to something there.
