I don't care who #1 or #2 is on paper... If I were a coach, whoever is playing better would play. Even if Elliot was not in need of a maintenance day, Johnson deserves the start with his performance. Just because you want to give 1 guy a bid of confidence doesn't mean you need to strip another guy who already has it.
Also, great to see the lineups the same. I would prefer not to see lines shuffled mid game, Ferland is a great 4th liner but my hope in him being more isn't there. This isn't a bad thing as great teams need a great 4th line.

Pure speculation on my part, but the number of times he had to stretch (quickly) across the crease to stop the Oilers, maybe he tweaked his groin. Does Elliott have a history with that sort of issue?

One guy is getting paid 1.7 mil and the other 2.5
It's not like you're benching a $6 mil goalie in favour of your backup.
Elliott is also used to a system that used a 1a/1b approach. I'd be fine with running with whichever guy is performing best. If Elliott wants 60+ starts he'll just have to prove himself.

Roger Millions is a tool. Why doe he always add the "hmmmmm"? does he think it makes him witty or funny? It's no wonder he has zero sources and doesn't get the respect from players even though he's been around the Flames forever.

I wouldn't be surprised if this game had Johnson pencilled in all along. Former team. Saturday too, it was the back end of a back to back and on the road. I'm fairly certain Elliott gets St. Louis at home on Saturday and on the road next Tuesday in St. Louis. That might mean Johnson is pencilled in for Monday in Chicago, the first of back to backs on the road.
It's about the schedule, getting both guys games and letting them face their former teams.

This. And neither guy is signed beyond this year. It's impossible for Flames to have a goalie controversy as there is no established starter. Im sure they expect Elliott to be the primary starter but playing Johnson a lot would not create a controversy.
